In modern society, fast-paced lifestyles, high work stress, frequent use of electronic devices, and exposure to numerous chemical household products can all contribute to male sperm death. They disrupt endocrine function, reducing sperm count, impairing motility, causing morphological abnormalities, and in severe cases, leading to testicular cancer.
(2) Cigarettes: Nicotine in cigarettes damages sperm, lowering sperm concentration in semen and increasing the rate of abnormal sperm.
(3) Alcohol: Alcohol weakens reproductive function, causes chromosomal abnormalities, and may lead to fetal malformations or developmental disorders.
(4) Vehicle Exhaust: Vehicle exhaust contains numerous harmful substances, particularly dioxins—powerful environmental endocrine disruptors. These can alter testicular morphology, reduce sperm count, and diminish spermatogenesis.
(5) High temperatures can damage the testes: Men should avoid prolonged exposure to high-temperature environments, such as saunas or hot baths.
(6) Radiation: Materials used in home renovations—like marble, tiles, granite, and toilets—may contain radiation exceeding safety standards. These physical factors have thermal effects that can injure reproductive gland tissue.
(7) Laptop computer impact: Internal temperatures of laptops can exceed 70°C during operation. Placing a laptop on the lap for extended periods raises scrotal temperature by nearly 3°C, potentially reducing sperm count—particularly affecting teenage boys and young men.
(8) Noise pollution: Noise disrupts endocrine function, leading to abnormal semen and sperm.Prolonged exposure to noise pollution can cause male infertility.
Five Effective TCM Formulas for Treating Necrospermia
(1) Kidney Yang Deficiency: Sperm mortality rate exceeds 40% or is complete, accompanied by diminished libido, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, soreness in the lower back and knees, aversion to cold with cold limbs, fatigue and weakness, pale tongue with white coating, and deep, weak pulse.Treatment should focus on warming and tonifying kidney yang using modified Yougui Pill. (2) Kidney Yin Deficiency: Characterized by scanty semen volume, dry mouth and throat, dark urine with burning sensation, nocturnal emission or hematospermia, lower back soreness with tinnitus, five-heart heat (palms, soles, and chest), night sweats, red tongue with scant coating, and thin rapid pulse. Treatment should nourish yin and reduce fire using modified Zhibai Dihuang Pill.
(3) Deficiency of Both Qi and Blood: Presenting with poor appetite, sallow complexion, fatigue, insomnia with palpitations, loose stools, pale and swollen tongue with teeth marks on edges, and a fine, weak pulse. Treatment should focus on tonifying qi and blood using Guipi Tang with modifications.
(4) Liver Qi Stagnation: Presenting with emotional depression, irritability, chest and flank distension, lower abdominal pain, and a dark red tongue. Treatment should focus on soothing the liver and resolving depression using modified Chaihu Shugan San.
(5) Damp-heat descending: Presenting with restlessness, sticky sensation in the mouth, scanty, dark, turbid urine, testicular distension and pain, moist scrotum, leukorrhea, red tongue with thick yellow coating, slippery and rapid pulse. Treatment should clear and drain damp-heat using modified Baishan Fenqing Decoction.
Tuina and cupping therapy are also effective for treating necrospermia.
Tuina:
(1) Lower Abdominal Tuina:
Points: Shenque (CV8), Qihai (CV6), Guanyuan (CV4), Zhongji (CV3).
Technique: Patient supine. First, press Shenque with the heel of the palm until warmth is felt below the navel. Use gentle yet deep pressure for about 3 minutes. Then use the fleshy part of the palm to knead Qihai, Guanyuan, and Zhongji for about 2 minutes each. Finally, use the palm rubbing technique on Qihai and Guanyuan for about 3 minutes, until a warm sensation is felt in the lower abdomen.
(2) Massage the lower back and waist:
Acupoints: Shenshu, Mingmen; Yangguang, Ciliao, Zhongji.
Procedure: Patient lies prone. Begin by kneading Shenshu and Mingmen with moderate pressure until a mild sensation of soreness and distension is felt. Continue kneading each point for 2 minutes. Next, use the One-Finger Zen technique to push Ciliao and Zhongji for 1 minute each, then switch to a pressing-kneading method with slightly stronger stimulation for about 1 minute per point. Finally, rub the Yangguang point on the waist until warmth radiates to the lower abdomen.
Cupping:
Acupoints: Dazhui (GV14), Mingmen (GV4), Huatuo Jiaji (BL12-14), Guanyuan (CV4), Zhongwan (CV12).
Procedure: Apply fire cupping with intense heat flashes approximately 10 times at each point, then retain the cups for 5 minutes. After removal, roll the cup rim over the treated area several times. Suitable for those with deficient Mingmen fire.
