Necrospermia is a relatively common urological condition and one of the primary causes of male infertility. Its incidence has been gradually rising in recent years, depriving many men of their ability to father children and fracturing family unity. What are the main risks of necrospermia for men? How can it be prevented? Director Zhang Bin of the Department of Infertility and Sexual Medicine at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University addressed these questions in an interview with Public Health Network, offering insights worth considering.
What are the risks of necrospermia?
Necrospermia refers to a condition where sperm viability decreases, with over 40% of sperm being dead.Director Zhang Bin explains that necrospermia directly causes male infertility while also inflicting significant psychological and lifestyle distress. Specifically: 1. Psychological Barriers Long-term infertility places immense psychological pressure on both partners, diminishing their quality of life and potentially straining marital relationships. Prolonged mental stress further exacerbates testicular spermatogenesis disorders.
2. Sexual Dysfunction or Marital Sexual Disharmony
Infertility severely damages male self-esteem. The immense psychological burden men endure can easily lead to the emergence of sexual dysfunction.
3. Suffering Caused by Underlying Diseases
Conditions like chronic prostatitis, mental illnesses undergoing treatment, or chronic hepatitis coexist with this condition. The heavy medication regimens and financial burdens associated with these diseases leave patients overwhelmed.
How to prevent necrospermia?
Necrospermia not only causes infertility but also leads to psychological distress and sexual dysfunction in men. The presence of underlying diseases causes immense suffering. Preventing necrospermia requires attention to daily lifestyle details.Director Zhang Bin offers the following recommendations:
1. Minimize testicular exposure to high temperatures
Saunas, steam baths, and excessive heat can cause sperm abnormalities or even kill sperm. Sperm are highly fragile and require low temperatures for optimal production. Frequent exposure to high temperatures disrupts this essential environment.
2. Quit smoking and drinking
Tobacco and alcohol impair liver function and damage testicular spermatogenesis.
3. Avoid unhealthy sexual practices
Unprotected sex can transmit STDs, disrupt urogenital system function, and severely damage sperm. When semen is infected by STD bacteria, sperm lose vitality, leading to necrospermia. Therefore, practice abstinence, avoid unprotected sex, and prioritize safe sex measures.
4. Maintain Genital Hygiene
Daily cleansing of the genital area effectively prevents inflammation caused by smegma buildup. Avoid using soap for this purpose, as it can disrupt the urethra's natural immune environment and trigger inflammatory responses. Certain soap ingredients may also kill sperm. Use plain water or male-specific cleansing solutions instead.
