The Difference Between Grapes and Grapefruit

Grapes and table grapes both belong to the Vitaceae family and Vitis genus. Table grapes are also known as American grapes, a specific variety within the grape family. "Grapes" (提子) is the Cantonese term for grapes, and in Cantonese contexts, it generally refers to all types of grapes. In most regions of China, however, "grapes" (提子) specifically denotes imported grape varieties, and there are some differences between the two in many aspects.
Skin and Flesh
Grapes: Thicker skin with a slightly astringent taste. The flesh is soft and juicy, and the skin separates easily from the flesh.
Table Grapes: Thin skin with a light bloom. The flesh is crisp and firm with less juice. The skin and flesh can be eaten together.
Fruit Color and Shape
Grapes: Skin color varies by variety, predominantly reddish-purple, with a round shape.
Table Grapes: Colors range from bright red to purplish-black and yellowish-green. Shapes include round and oval, with oval being more common.
Taste and Size
Grapes: Generally tart with smaller berries, though juicy, often containing numerous seeds.
Raisins: Sweeter in flavor with larger berries, crisp and firm texture, some varieties contain seeds while others are seedless.
Price Difference
Grapes are generally cheaper than grapes. Currently, grapes cost around 3-4 yuan per pound in the market, while grapes are about twice as expensive. This isn't due to significant nutritional differences but rather because grapes involve higher cultivation costs and transportation expenses. So, they're pricier. You can choose between grapes or grapes based on personal preference.
