The Weizhong acupoint is located at the center of the popliteal fossa, the hollow behind the knee. Traditional Chinese medicine states, "For back and waist discomfort, seek relief at Weizhong." Office workers suffering from prolonged sitting or poor posture, as well as seniors frequently experiencing back and waist soreness, can benefit from regularly massaging this point to promote smooth qi and blood flow in the back and waist. When massaging Weizhong, apply pressure until a slight soreness is felt. One cycle consists of one press and one release, typically performed about 20 times consecutively. It's important to note that kidney deficiency-related back pain should be addressed by strengthening the kidneys.Hegu clears heat, relieves surface symptoms, calms the mind, and alleviates pain. It effectively relieves and treats head and facial ailments. For headaches, fever, or toothaches from wind-heat colds that don't respond immediately to medication, applying pressure to Hegu can provide relief. Apply pressure until you feel soreness, numbness, or fullness. If accompanied by fever, scrape the skin at the back of the neck with a porcelain soup spoon or pinch and pull the surrounding skin until it turns red or purple. This helps expel heat toxins and reduces fever more quickly.
Stomach-Nourishing Point: Zhongwan
Zhongwan is located on the midline of the abdomen, at the midpoint between the lower end of the sternum and the navel. Pressing it should cause a sour or aching sensation.Individuals with weak stomachs may regularly press Zhongwan. For acute stomach stabbing pain, press Zhongwan with a finger for 10 seconds, release, then press again. Repeat this cycle for three to five minutes to relieve symptoms. Those with chronic stomach discomfort may gently knead Zhongwan with the palm to promote digestion. For acute gastroenteritis, combine Zhongwan with Tian Shu (located 2 cun lateral to the navel) and Da Ju (located 2 cun lateral and 2 cun below the navel) for synergistic treatment.
Kidney-tonifying and vital energy-strengthening point: Guanyuan
The Guanyuan point is located 3 cun (approximately the width of four fingers spread apart, excluding the thumb) below the navel. Massaging this point replenishes kidney qi and delays aging. For men, massaging Guanyuan alleviates kidney deficiency, lower back soreness, and hair loss. For women, it treats and relieves various gynecological conditions. Before massaging, rub your palms together until warm. Place your palms over the Guanyuan point on your abdomen and rub in a circular motion, starting gently and gradually increasing pressure until warmth is felt.
Heart-Nourishing Point: Neiguan
Extend your arm with palm facing upward, clench your fist, and raise your wrist. You will see two tendons in the middle of your forearm. The Neiguan point is located between these two tendons, two finger-widths above the wrist crease. Massaging Neiguan promotes smooth blood and qi flow. Apply vertical downward pressure with your thumb for about 3 minutes per session until a sensation of soreness or numbness occurs locally.Beyond heart protection, Neiguan serves as an emergency acupoint. During sudden cardiac events, position the patient flat. While awaiting emergency care, massaging Neiguan can alleviate pain. Additionally, it relieves headaches, dry mouth, sore throat, cervical spondylosis, frozen shoulder, and lower back pain.
Meridian-Activating Point: Yanglingquan
Located on the lower leg, locate it while sitting still. Feel along the leg: just below and outside the knee joint is a protrusion called the lesser condyle of the fibula. The depression directly below and anterior to this protrusion is the Yanglingquan point.Regularly massaging Yanglingquan combined with shoulder movements can relieve pain around the shoulders. Additionally, Yanglingquan alleviates breast tenderness, rib discomfort, and intercostal neuralgia.Traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes the principle "For abdominal ailments, seek Zusanli." This means massaging Zusanli can address abdominal conditions like chronic gastroenteritis, chronic diarrhea, and stomach cold. Furthermore, Zusanli effectively prevents cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, pulmonary heart disease, cerebral hemorrhage, and arteriosclerosis. For office workers and those experiencing suboptimal health, pressing Zusanli for 10 minutes daily can alleviate work stress and relieve fatigue.
Yin-Nourishing Beauty Point: Sanyinjiao
Known as the "women's point," Sanyinjiao is located on the inner calf, 3 cun (approximately 9 cm) above the highest point of the ankle bone. Massaging this point helps clear blockages in the body, nourish the uterus and ovaries, regulate menstruation, fade spots, reduce wrinkles, clear acne, and treat skin allergies, dermatitis, and eczema.Begin daily massage three days before menstruation and continue for three months to alleviate irregular periods and dysmenorrhea. Position your thumb vertically on the point, press downward, then rotate in a circular motion for about one minute. Rest briefly before repeating. Note: This technique regulates qi and blood flow, making it unsuitable for pregnant women.
Calm Mind & Strengthen Body Point: Yongquan
Yongquan, the starting point of the Kidney Meridian, is located on the sole of the foot. It sits in the depression at the front third of the foot, where the arch forms when the toes are flexed. A folk saying goes: "Yongquan and Zusanli, secrets to longevity; press a hundred times before sleep, strengthen spleen and enrich essence."After washing your feet daily, use both thumbs to rub the Yongquan points on the soles for about 10 minutes to aid sleep. Those with neurasthenia may extend this to half an hour. When weather warms, walk barefoot or in socks on pebble paths to stimulate these points.
