In today's appearance-driven era, young women demand flawless complexions, making acne their greatest enemy. Effective acne treatment has become a hot topic among them. Director Zhang Yunsong from the Plastic Surgery and Laser Center at Guangdong Provincial Second People's Hospital told Public Health Network editors that while numerous acne treatments exist, the most crucial approach is targeting the root cause for effective results.
Tretinoin Acne Treatment Alleviates Skin Keratinization
"Generally, for acne caused by excessive keratinization at the sebaceous gland duct opening, we use tretinoin."Director Zhang Yun Song explained that retinoic acid is the oxidized form of vitamin A and represents the final pathway through which vitamin A exerts its effects. It slows excessive keratinization at the sebaceous duct opening while simultaneously opening the sebaceous pore, allowing sebum to drain smoothly and thereby reducing blackheads and acne.
Topical and Oral Antibiotics for Bacteria Elimination and Inflammation Reduction
"If acne inflammation is caused by bacterial infections like Propionibacterium acnes or Staphylococcus epidermidis, corresponding antibiotics such as tetracyclines, erythromycin, or clindamycin can be used," Director Zhang Yun Song explained. Topical application is recommended first, applying antibiotics directly to inflamed areas to kill bacteria and reduce inflammation. If improvement is not seen, oral antibiotics can be switched to, which also provide anti-inflammatory effects.
Severe acne requires comprehensive treatment
"If the above methods fail to clear acne, a multi-pronged approach is necessary," Director Zhang Yunsong explained. Beyond oral and topical antibiotics, medications can be injected directly into the deeper layers of the skin to target acne at its source.
Laser Acne Treatment: Twice the Results with Half the Effort
The three methods above are relatively traditional approaches to acne treatment. With the rapid development of laser cosmetology, phototherapy or laser treatments can now be used to clear acne. Compared to other methods, these treatments deliver twice the results with half the effort.
