Although numerous methods exist for treating acne, many young women avoid seeking medical help unless the condition is severe. Instead, they often turn to folk remedies like herbal teas and traditional Chinese medicine. But do these methods truly work? Director Zhang Yunsong from the Plastic Surgery and Laser Center at Guangdong Provincial Second People's Hospital explains that drinking herbal teas and using traditional Chinese medicine can indeed offer some acne-fighting benefits.
Herbal Teas Offer Auxiliary Benefits
"Common herbal teas sold commercially primarily serve to clear heat, detoxify, and promote bowel movements—sharing similarities with other acne treatments and thus providing supplementary support," Director Zhang Yun Song explains. Additionally, herbal teas are part of Guangdong's traditional culture, and vendors often possess foundational knowledge in medicine and traditional Chinese medicine. They can recommend suitable teas based on the underlying causes.
Herbal Acne Treatment Requires Reputable Hospitals and Practitioners
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), a treasure of our nation, offers internal body regulation. From a TCM perspective, it identifies the root causes of acne and prescribes targeted treatments to clear breakouts. However, Director Zhang Yunsong specifically cautioned beauty seekers to choose only reputable hospitals and licensed TCM practitioners. Otherwise, not only might acne fail to clear, but adverse effects could even occur.
