Girls familiar with medical aesthetics know all about hydrating injections—the legendary hydration powerhouse used by 99.5% of Korean stars and models for skin maintenance. Just one injection delivers the equivalent of thousands of face masks, instantly transforming skin into a dewy, luminous, and elastic masterpiece!
Many of my friends have asked about hydrating injections. While some already have good skin, most seek an effective and safe solution for their concerns. Newcomers often have questions like:
"Are hydrating injections really that magical?"
"Are there side effects?"
"Is my skin suitable for hydrating injections?"
"Why didn't topical hydrating products work for me?"
"With so many hydrating injection products on the market, how do I choose?"
And so on.
Part 1: Questions About Hydrating Injection Effects
Answer: As the name suggests, hydrating injections aim to leave your skin more hydrated and radiant. Before discussing their effects, let's first examine the structure of human skin. This will help you understand how different hydrating products work.
Skin consists of the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue. Absorption typically occurs in the epidermis. The epidermis comprises the stratum corneum, granular layer, spinous layer, and basal layer. The stratum corneum accounts for 90% of skin absorption, primarily taking in lipid-soluble substances. The remaining 10% occurs via hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and sweat ducts, which absorb water-soluble components. The skin contains lipid substances, the three most important being ceramides, free cholesterol, and free fatty acids, along with others like squalane. These lipids are wedged into the gaps between keratinocytes. If skin were likened to a wall, these lipids function as the mortar between bricks. Within the stratum corneum, they spontaneously arrange into a bilayer structure (similar to cell membranes, with hydrophobic heads facing outward and hydrophilic tails inward). This arrangement effectively blocks the penetration of most chemicals, including water attempting to evaporate outward from the stratum corneum and deeper layers. This means that no matter how many active ingredients a topical skincare product contains, they cannot penetrate the lipid bilayer, let alone reach the stratum corneum or dermis, rendering them ineffective.
The same applies to so-called "topical hydrating injections"! Hydrating injections, however, work differently!
Hydrating injections target the skin's mesoderm layer. Using extremely fine needles, they deliver small-molecule hyaluronic acid, tranexamic acid, botulinum toxin, and other active ingredients through multiple micro-injections into the superficial dermis. This simultaneously stimulates collagen production, effectively delaying aging symptoms caused by collagen depletion and dehydration. It acts like a "bridge," crossing the epidermis to deliver nutrients directly to the dermis, addressing deep-seated skin issues.
Once in the dermis, the hydrating injection interacts with cells through hydration, boosting microcirculation and nutrient absorption. It gradually dilutes and absorbs itself, so its effects are temporary.Generally, individuals with dry skin or inconsistent skincare routines may experience shorter results, lasting approximately 3 months. The duration also correlates with the number of treatments received. The first session typically provides shorter-term effects, lasting about 1-2 months. After three consecutive treatments, results can persist for approximately one year, though individual constitution, skin type, and lifestyle habits may influence longevity.
Part 2: Safety Concerns Regarding Hydrating Injections
Answer: Hydrating injections are non-surgical procedures administered at the superficial dermal layer, posing relatively low risks. While individual responses may include temporary redness, swelling, or bruising, these typically resolve completely within one week. With proper post-treatment care, significant side effects are uncommon.
Part 3: How to Choose the Right Hydrating Injection Regimen for You
Answer: Hydrating injections address various skin concerns caused by dermal dehydration and collagen depletion. They have minimal age restrictions for patients. Under professional guidance, the composition and dosage of injected ingredients can be determined after a comprehensive assessment of your facial skin condition.

Additionally, note that the following individuals are unsuitable for hydrating injections:
Pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Avoid treatment during menstruation, as injections during this period may increase bleeding, bruising, and discomfort.
Individuals with a history of severe sun exposure or allergies within the past month, including those with prior allergic reactions to hyaluronic acid products, should not undergo hydrating injections.
Injections are generally not performed on the upper or lower eyelids. For improving fine lines around the eyes or dark circles, injections may be administered at a needle depth less than 0.8mm, carefully avoiding visible blood vessels.
Individuals with a history of keloid scarring or active skin inflammation should consult their doctor regarding suitability for the procedure.
Part 4: Pre- and Post-Treatment Care for Hydrating Injections
Answer: Caution is paramount; both pre- and post-treatment care must be diligently followed.
Inform your doctor of all medications currently being taken prior to treatment.
Disclose any facial plastic surgery, laser procedures, or medical device implants performed within the past six months to your attending physician.
After the treatment, consistently use hydrating masks and moisturizers while increasing water intake. Apply masks daily for the first week, then twice weekly thereafter.
Avoid vigorous massage or squeezing for two weeks post-treatment. Steer clear of hot, humid environments and prolonged sun exposure. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, spicy foods, saunas, and strenuous exercise. Do not rub the injection sites forcefully.
Patients with acne may experience temporary worsening of breakouts. If ingredients that shrink sebaceous glands and pores are used, temporary dryness may occur. Enhance moisturizing and sun protection; symptoms typically subside on their own.
If an allergic reaction occurs, seek immediate in-person consultation with your doctor to prevent worsening inflammation leading to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, or even secondary infection causing scar formation.
