The presence of nasal side shadows elevates your makeup from a flat plane to a three-dimensional effect on the profile. Women with round faces or fuller features should note: achieving a slimmer facial appearance relies not on excessive side contouring, but on applying foundation one shade darker than your skin tone along the sides of the nose.
Dip your finger into foundation (a cylindrical brush works best) and apply evenly along both sides of the bridge starting from the brow bone. Gradually increase pressure as you move downward, blending seamlessly into the brow and eyeshadow transition. Avoid applying too much depth initially—start lightly and build gradually.Finish at the nostrils, leaving space for highlight application. Apply darker shades closer to the face and lighter shades toward the highest point of the bridge. Unless creating a smoky eye look, avoid using eyeshadow powder for nose contouring, as it can easily make your makeup appear messy. This primarily applies to those with a rounded nose tip or a fuller nasal tip. Use the small brush to extend the contour line—the one we previously mentioned stopping at the nostrils when applied with fingers—from the highest point of the bridge toward the tip. Again, leave space in the center for highlighting to create a smooth transition. Stop at the tip, then lightly brush upward from the area between the nostrils toward the tip to add a subtle shadow effect.
3. Enhance Dimension with Light and Shadow
A smaller face frame highlights the nose's prominence. Apply foundation one shade lighter than your skin tone to the T-zone, avoiding the tip. Apply foundation one shade darker around the face's edges to sculpt facial features.
4. Techniques for Highlighting the Philtrum
Dip a brush into highlighter powder and sweep it along both sides of the philtrum's raised area.Highlight the cupid's bow along the lip line to add dimension around the nose. This technique conceals a wide nose. For refinement, use an eyeshadow pencil (preferably gray) to draw two thin straight lines along each side of the bridge. Then apply foundation to the sides of the nostrils, blending it gently with the nose contour lines.
5. Mastering Foundation for Nose Contouring
Using your finger (or a cylindrical brush), apply foundation evenly along both sides of the bridge starting from the brow bone. Gradually increase pressure as you move downward, blending seamlessly into the brow and eyeshadow transition. Avoid applying too much depth initially—start lightly and build gradually.Finish at the nostrils, leaving space for highlighting. Apply darker shades closer to the face and lighter shades toward the higher bridge area. Unless creating a smoky eye look, avoid using eyeshadow for nose contouring—it can easily make your makeup appear messy.
