Observe how 10 common diseases manifest on the palms to assess preliminary health conditions.
Our palms serve as a mirror of health. Different areas of the body correspond to specific regions on our palms. When performing palm diagnosis, do so under natural light. Keep the hands neither too high nor too low, as gravity affects color perception.First, observe the color. Typically, palms exhibit both red and white hues: red appears where blood vessels are densely clustered, while white shows in areas with sparser vascular distribution. Note: In healthy individuals, the red is pale or pinkish, and the white interspersed within this red is soft, harmonious, and evenly distributed. In summary, the palm color of a healthy person gives an impression of nourished radiance and balanced complexion.
If certain areas of the palm exhibit unusually prominent white, red, blue, black, or yellow hues, it may indicate health issues.
1. Redness in the thenar eminence
The heart area corresponds to the thenar eminence. Redness here indicates excess heat in the heart region, potentially leading to restlessness, insomnia, or chest tightness.
Countermeasure: When heart fire is excessive, one naturally seeks cooling relief. However, methods like "gobbling ice," "taking a cold shower immediately after feeling hot," or "sleeping on the floor to seek coolness" are dangerous. While externally "quenching" the heat may provide temporary relief, it actually causes significant damage to the body's yang energy. Excessive consumption of cold foods accumulates cold energy internally, making one more susceptible to illness.
The simplest way to clear heart fire is drinking lotus seed core tea. However, those with spleen-stomach deficiency-cold may opt for rubbing chopsticks. Grasp the upper section of chopsticks—their ridges provide effective stimulation. Rub them repeatedly; you'll feel a tingling sensation in your palms. This will cause redness and warmth, unblocking the heart meridian and effectively clearing heart fire. 2. Redness at the base of the middle finger The lowest joint of the middle finger corresponds to the head region. Redness here typically indicates liver yang rising, often leading to headaches, dizziness, tinnitus, or high blood pressure.
Countermeasure: Consuming Sanqi powder effectively prevents and alleviates cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Take 2–3 grams per serving with milk or warm water. Alternatively, add 10–20 grams to stewed chicken or pork ribs after cooking, simmering for ten minutes. Take on an empty stomach in the morning; those with weak digestion may take it half an hour after meals.
3. Redness at the lower end of the hypothenar eminence
Redness in this area often indicates elevated blood sugar. Traditional Chinese Medicine attributes this to yin deficiency with internal heat, manifesting as thirst and dry mouth. Individuals in their 30s are particularly prone to high blood sugar. Monitor blood sugar levels if this area reddens. Proper blood sugar control will gradually fade the redness.
Countermeasure: Brew a tea using American ginseng, kudzu flower, and ophiopogon tuber to nourish both qi and yin.
4. Bluish liver area
A slightly bluish liver area indicates recent fatigue or excessive worry. If the bluish tint is pronounced or accompanied by swelling, it suggests susceptibility to liver qi stagnation and irritability. Prolonged liver qi stagnation may lead to illness.
Countermeasure: Brew a tea using 5g each of Albizia flower, roasted jujube seed (crushed), and biota seed. If the liver area feels sore along with the bluish tint, gently massage the liver meridian from the outer edge toward the palm for about 10 minutes.
5. Bluish tint in the rheumatic area
The rheumatic area is located at the lower end of the thenar eminence.Traditional Chinese medicine explains that dampness descends, and exposure to cold can cause lower back and leg pain. When this area appears bluish, prioritize warmth.
Countermeasure: Try a medicinal foot bath. Mugwort, safflower, cinnamon twig, and asarum can warm yang, unblock meridians, and invigorate blood circulation. For severe cases, use 30 grams of each herb in water at 38-42°C until the body breaks a light sweat.
6. Bluish discoloration at the base of the middle finger
The base of the middle finger corresponds to the head region. Bluish veins appearing on this finger in young women often indicate migraines. For those over 40, if the veins cover less than one-third of the finger's length, it may suggest eye issues. However, if the veins extend beyond one-third of the finger's length in individuals over 40, cerebral vascular sclerosis should be considered.
Countermeasure: To protect heart and brain blood vessels, Luo Dalun recommends a golden formula: equal parts of Sanqi powder and American ginseng powder (e.g., 50g each). Mix thoroughly. Take 1g daily dissolved in warm water. Those with severe conditions may increase dosage (3-5g) and may take with room-temperature water or milk.Adding equal parts Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen) to this formula further enhances cerebral vascular health. 7. Bluish discoloration in the heart area In young individuals, this may indicate mental exhaustion and can resolve with adequate rest. However, middle-aged individuals exhibiting worm-like twisted blue veins should prioritize heart protection, as this may signal coronary artery issues.
Countermeasure: Research by Zhejiang Institute of Chinese Medicine indicates that active compounds in garlic prevent atherosclerosis and coronary artery blockage, lower cholesterol, reduce blood clot formation, regulate blood sugar, and prevent cancer.Consume 2-3 cloves of vinegar-soaked garlic daily. 8. White spots in the center of the palm The center of the palm corresponds to the stomach area. If noticeable white spots appear beneath the skin (where others have uniform white spots), indicating a distinct difference, it may suggest poor spleen and stomach function, potentially leading to stomach issues like acidity, belching, and sensitivity to cold.
Countermeasure: Regularly consume coix seed, euryale seed, and red date porridge. Use high-quality coix seeds, add euryale seeds and red dates. This combination both regulates the spleen and stomach and promotes health. If experiencing stomach pain or acid reflux, wash and crush eggshells. Place them in an iron pan and stir-fry over low heat until golden (do not burn). Grind into powder—the finer the better.Take one eggshell's worth daily, divided into two doses before or after meals with warm water. Eggshells function as a Chinese medicinal ingredient, offering benefits such as neutralizing acidity, alleviating pain, and promoting hemostasis.
9. Alternating red and white spots in the colon area
The colon area is located beside the stomach region. Small alternating red and white spots here indicate diarrhea in traditional Chinese medicine. The most common cause is allergic colitis, where improper diet or exposure to cold triggers diarrhea.
Countermeasure: Regularly consume brown rice cooked as rice or porridge to aid digestion, cleanse the gastrointestinal tract, and provide sustained energy to the intestines.
10. White spots in the reproductive zone
The lowest part of the palm corresponds to the uterus and vagina. White spots here often indicate susceptibility to menstrual cramps, infertility, or uterine fibroids.
Countermeasure: Regularly drink Four Substances Soup (Si Wu Tang), the most potent blood-nourishing broth with rapid efficacy.
