Arm liposuction primarily involves injecting a controlled amount of tumescent fluid into the outer arm area to dissolve fat for easier removal. A liposuction device is then used to extract the liquefied fat cells from the arm, rapidly eliminating excess fat.
Preoperative Considerations for Arm Liposuction:
1. Avoid alcohol and smoking prior to surgery;
2. Discontinue aspirin, vitamin E, and other vasodilators before the procedure;
3. Undergo comprehensive health screening, including blood tests, liver function tests, assessment of hypertension and coronary heart disease, and an electrocardiogram (ECG);
4. Maintain bodily cleanliness before surgery;
5. Determine preoperative fasting requirements based on the anesthesia method;
7. Patients should have a thorough discussion with their surgeon beforehand. Patients should understand the extent of the procedure, steps involved, level of discomfort, recovery timeline, potential outcomes, and possible risks. Surgeons should understand the patient's motivation for surgery and whether their expectations are realistic.
Postoperative Care for Arm Liposuction:
1. Significant drainage may occur within the first 24 hours. Place absorbent pads over the dressing to prevent soiling outer clothing. If the dressing becomes loose or completely saturated, replace it immediately and reapply the bandage.
2. Take prescribed oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications as directed.
3. Resume normal activities after 2-3 days. Localized swelling, bruising, mild pain, or skin itching are normal and require no intervention. If swelling becomes excessive, schedule a follow-up visit.
4. Remove the dressing on the second day post-op. Disinfect the incision site with 75% medical alcohol. Showering is permitted every other day after dressing removal. Cover incision sites with waterproof adhesive to prevent infection.
5. Return to routine office work is generally possible 3-5 days post-surgery.
6. Short-term bruising, numbness, hard lumps, or unevenness at the surgical site are normal after liposuction and typically resolve spontaneously within 3-6 months.
7. After removing the dressing, continue wearing compression garments for at least 2-3 months to consolidate liposuction results and achieve a slimmer silhouette.
8. Avoid spicy or irritating foods; refrain from smoking and alcohol.
