The shape and structure of the nose play a crucial role in both the nose itself and the entire facial appearance. Some individuals are born with naturally wide nostrils, which can affect the overall aesthetic appeal of the face. What are the solutions for wide nostrils? Based on each patient's unique circumstances, doctors will develop tailored cosmetic surgery plans. What should be done about wide nostrils? Different surgical approaches are selected based on individual circumstances. There are three primary methods for nostril reduction:
1. For cases combining wide nostrils with large nostril openings, a cautious approach involves partial excision of the nostril base combined with nostril reduction.Incisions are designed at the nasal alar base and lower alar sulcus. Under local anesthesia, a portion of the full-thickness tissue at the alar base is appropriately excised. The tissue is then rotated inward and advanced to reduce the nostril size, followed by layered interrupted suturing. Postoperative scar length typically does not exceed 1 cm.
2. For patients with a wide alar rim, a partial excision of the free edge of the alar cartilage can be performed. After reshaping, the incision is sutured to the inner surface of the alar cartilage.
3. For cases with small nostrils, excessively thick alae, or overly full upper alar folds, a skin incision is made along the anterior border of the lateral crus of the alar cartilage. The skin is then dissected from the underlying alar cartilage. Excess soft tissue covering the cartilage surface is excised, followed by partial resection of the upper and lateral portions of the alar cartilage. Then, within the nostril, excise a rhombic-shaped vestibular skin and nasal mucosa graft from the medial aspect of the alar base. Remove excess fatty tissue. Finally, suture the incision at the nostril margin and the incision on the medial aspect of the alar base.
Note: Under normal circumstances, the outermost edge of the nostril should not extend beyond the vertical line of the inner canthus. If it does, it indicates alar hypertrophy. When the alae are wide, the nostrils appear
