Botox: The "Monk Who Causes Extinction"
>This study, led by Dr. David Becker, Assistant Professor at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, was published in the journal Aesthetic and Cosmetic Dermatology. Dr. Becker explained that muscle tissue paralyzed by botulinum toxin is replaced by other muscle tissues to perform the facial movements blocked by the toxin. The result is increased muscle activity in facial movements, leading to more wrinkles.
However, Dr. Neil Sadick, a New York City dermatologist who administers Botox to an average of 30 patients daily, acknowledges that while the study holds merit, it is not conclusive. Theoretically, Botox injections may cause minor wrinkles in other facial areas, but overall, they reduce the total number of wrinkles—which is precisely what most patients seek.
Editor's Note: While Botox injections may cause additional wrinkles, most patients seek to eliminate the majority of wrinkles. We strongly advise undergoing Botox treatments only at reputable cosmetic hospitals with highly-regarded surgeons.
