While various dermal fillers exist on the market—including Juvederm, Radiesse, and Restylane—only botulinum toxins like BOTOX fundamentally address muscle movement issues.Dr. Haresh Yalamanchili, a Houston-based facial plastic surgeon, explains, "People interested in non-invasive cosmetic procedures like Botox injections often don't fully understand their distinct functions. Botox works by inhibiting active expression lines, such as frown lines between the eyebrows or crow's feet, while dermal fillers add volume to areas like the lips and cheeks."
When injected into muscles, Botox temporarily inhibits excessive muscle activity, making movement more difficult and thereby smoothing the skin.
