Large nostrils may suggest a woman appears somewhat coarse. This rugged feminine image is unlikely to appeal to most men. What can be done about large nostrils? Nostril reduction surgery offers multiple techniques; doctors will select the appropriate method based on your specific case. With beautifully refined nostrils, others will no longer find fault, and your life will become more vibrant.
What issues can nostril surgery address?
1. Narrowed or obstructed anterior nostrils
Narrowed or obstructed nostrils not only affect breathing, olfaction, and development but also impact overall facial development. While congenital factors exist, most cases result from acquired causes like trauma, burns, scalds, or infections.Narrowed or obstructed anterior nostrils, especially those with scarring, necessitate cosmetic correction for aesthetic reasons, making nostril reshaping surgery the optimal solution.
2. Asymmetrical Nostril Size
Uneven nostril size may be congenital, such as in cleft lip and palate patients (commonly known as "hare lip"), often accompanied by nostril asymmetry.Acquired asymmetry may result from disease, trauma, burns, or scar contracture. Correcting this requires meticulous planning of the rhinoplasty procedure.
Rhinoplasty Techniques for Nostril Asymmetry:
1.Skin-Mucosal Z-Plasty
Make a curved incision along the future outer edge of the nostril, then create an incision along the upper margin of the existing nostril to form a skin flap. Make a curved incision along the inner edge of the future nostril to create a mucosal flap. Evert the skin flap toward the columella and suture it in place. Evert the mucosal flap toward the upper margin of the nostril at the alar margin and suture it in place.
2. Nasolabial Fold Flap Technique
First, measure the width of the normal nostril base. Based on this width, design a triangular skin flap with a base width corresponding to this measurement in the nasolabial fold of the narrowed nostril.Incisions are made along the planned lines at the nasal base and triangular flap. Sharp dissection is performed on the subcutaneous tissue bilaterally to the nasal base incision and the alar base to enlarge the nostril, followed by compression hemostasis. The triangular flap is transposed to the defect at the nasal base and meticulously sutured.
3. Scar Excision and Grafting Technique
Make an incision along the original anterior nostril margin with a sharp scalpel, excise the scar tissue, and restore the normal alar shape. Harvest a medium-thickness skin graft slightly larger than the inner nostril defect. After suturing the alar margin, insert the graft into the anterior nasal vestibule. Pack the area with vaseline gauze and secure with packing.
Nostril reshaping eliminates embarrassment. Correcting asymmetrical nostrils requires meticulous surgical planning. Narrow or obstructed nostrils are not only unattractive but also impair breathing. The joy of transforming an unattractive nose into a beautiful one through nostril surgery is indescribable.
