A crisp, clean shirt or a high-end leather jacket might be your favorite garments. Yet, just a few drops of oil can ruin them completely. Below are six tips for removing oil stains from clothes, so you no longer have to worry about stubborn grease marks.
1. If oil stains your clothes, don't rush to rinse them with water. First, apply dish soap directly to the stained area. Let it sit for about 20 minutes, then gently rub the spot by hand. Finally, rinse thoroughly with water to completely remove the oil stain.
2. Alternatively, apply a small amount of toothpaste to the stain, gently rub it in a few times, then rinse with water to remove the grease.
3. Applying alcohol or a salt solution to the oil stain can also eliminate the grease.
4. For stains caused by cooked oil, soak the garment in warm salt water, then rub with soap and rinse to remove.
5. For oil stains on silk garments, mix talcum powder into a paste and apply it to the stain. After letting it sit for a while, remove the talcum powder. Place thin paper over the silk and iron it flat using a low-temperature setting.
6. For oil stains on leather garments, apply a paste made from alcohol and chalk powder to the affected area. Once dry, carefully wipe it off.
