When cooking dishes, excessive oil not only makes the appearance greasy but also dampens one's appetite. The same principle applies to hair. When the body's fat metabolism is sluggish, undigested nutrients can accumulate, causing hair to appear greasy. Experts suggest that if your hair frequently becomes oily, you might consider washing it with rice water. Below, we'll delve into this everyday tip: the remarkable benefits of rice water and how to use it.
How to wash your hair with rice washing water?
1. First, find a container with a lid. Pour the rice washing water from rinsing rice 2-3 times daily into the container. Usually, sediment will form by the next day. Gently pour off some of the clear water on top (as you pour, the sediment will float up, so I only remove part of the clear water). This increases the concentration. Then add fresh rice washing water from that day. Repeat this process the next day—drain off some water and add fresh rice washing water. After 3-4 days, the container will contain a mixture of water from 3-4 days ago, 2 days ago, and fresh water. This rice water has begun fermenting slightly, and you might even detect a faint sourness (since the oldest layer has been sitting for 3-4 days).
2. When it's time to wash your hair, pour this mixture into a basin. Be sure to include the sediment at the bottom of the container. Since the rice water is cold, add some hot water to it and stir until well combined. The rice water shouldn't be too hot—warm is fine. Then add a little vinegar, and you're ready to wash. It's best to comb your hair before washing. During the wash, gently massage your hair with your hands and use your fingers to massage your scalp, ensuring the rice water thoroughly cleans both your hair and scalp. If your hair is oily, extend the washing time slightly. Think of it like washing dishes with rice water: if the dishes are greasy, soaking them longer in the water makes the grease easier to remove.Once you feel your hair is sufficiently cleaned, discard the rice water and rinse thoroughly with clean warm water. One or two rinses are usually sufficient. 3. Next comes conditioning. Add the juice of one lemon to clean warm water. Soak your hair in it for a while—it will soften and take on a fresh lemon scent. Then rinse thoroughly with clean water to complete the wash.I find squeezing fresh lemon juice troublesome, so I use 100% pure lemon juice with no additives. It's cheaper than fresh lemons and lasts longer. After washing, skip the blow dryer. Pat your hair dry with a towel and let it air dry naturally. Avoid combing wet hair; wait until it's nearly dry to minimize hair loss.
