Can I apply a face mask after sunburn?
Many people fall into this misconception: "If I'm sunburned, I should immediately use a whitening mask for care!" In reality, applying a face mask is generally acceptable after sun exposure, but it should be avoided during the acute inflammatory phase of sunburn.
Sunburn typically causes redness, swelling, and stinging sensations. During this phase, the skin's barrier function is compromised. Ingredients in masks that rarely cause allergies under normal conditions may trigger reactions due to increased skin absorption.
Additionally, when skin is sunburned, it feels red, swollen, and painful. Since the skin has just absorbed a large amount of UV radiation, applying a mask immediately traps heat, raising facial temperature and worsening symptoms.
After sun exposure, if your skin shows signs like redness, heat, or burning pain, soothe it promptly.First, move to a shaded area and spray or rinse the affected areas with slightly cool mineral water, avoiding ice packs.
Once cooled, apply lightweight, hydrating products with simple ingredients like aloe vera gel or vitamin E lotion. After several hours, when the burning sensation subsides, you may apply a refrigerated collagen mask for hydration and collagen replenishment.
Most people recover from sunburn within about a week, after which they can resume their regular skincare routine and begin using whitening products as appropriate.
