Facial cleansing is an essential part of daily skincare. For women, mastering the correct cleansing technique is crucial for healthier skin.
While washing your face may seem simple—just lather, rinse, and pat dry—haphazard scrubbing can actually damage your skin.
When washing your face, gradually move upward from the lower areas. Avoid covering your face with both hands and vigorously scrubbing up and down. Facial pores grow downward, and the stratum corneum is layered like fish scales from top to bottom. Washing against this natural direction helps remove impurities effectively. The upward motion also massages and lifts the skin, counteracting aging. However, since the pores on the nose grow upward and are most prone to blackheads, when washing the nose, rub downward in multiple circular motions.
The correct cleansing method involves using lukewarm water around 40°C (104°F) morning and night. Choose a cleanser suited to your skin type. Apply gentle, even pressure in upward strokes from the center outward, following the direction of muscle growth. This removes accumulated dust, grime, oil, and sweat. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and pat dry. After washing, splash cold water on your face to lower skin temperature, tighten pores, boost facial blood circulation, and enhance skin elasticity.
Important reminder: Always wash your hands before cleansing your face. Hands are more prone to contact with dirt and harbor numerous bacteria. Washing your face without washing your hands first may cause secondary skin contamination.
