Teenage girls are in their prime years with strong physical resilience. Yet studies show some develop mastitis—a condition typically associated with breastfeeding women that significantly impacts health. So what causes mastitis? How should patients manage their diet? Read on to find out.
What causes mastitis in young women?
Factors include improper sleeping positions that compress the breasts, physical activities causing breast trauma, poor nipple hygiene, friction or scratches, overly tight bras compressing developing breasts, unclean undergarments, inverted nipples, or nipple abscesses. These can all reduce local immunity, impair blood circulation, and cause congestion. This creates conditions favorable for bacterial proliferation and mastitis development.
In some unmarried young women, inflammation in other body areas—such as chronic tonsillitis, gingivitis, periodontitis, or sinusitis—can spread via the bloodstream or lymphatic system to the mammary glands, leading to mastitis.
Four Key Massage Techniques for Mastitis
Pushing and Stroking Method: The patient sits or lies on their side with the chest fully exposed. First, sprinkle talcum powder or apply a small amount of paraffin oil to the affected breast. Then, using the entire palms of both hands, gently push and stroke from the periphery of the breast along the milk ducts toward the nipple 50 to 100 times.
Pressing Technique: Apply pressure with the hypothenar or thenar eminence of the palm to the affected area. Use gentle kneading motions on red, swollen, and painful areas. Repeat pressing and kneading on hardened lumps until they soften.
Kneading, Pinching, and Grasping Technique: Use the fingers of the right hand to grasp the affected breast. Apply kneading pressure, alternating between squeezing and releasing, repeating 10–15 times.Gently tug the nipple several times with the left hand to dilate the lactiferous ducts in the nipple area.
Vibration Method: Using the hypothenar eminence of the right hand, perform high-speed oscillating strokes from the swollen breast area toward the nipple along the breast root. Repeat 3–5 times. Optimal results occur when a slight warmth develops locally.
Common dietary therapies for treating breast hyperplasia include:
1.Golden Orange Leaf Tea Preparation: Wash 30g of dried golden orange leaves, dry thoroughly, then chop finely. Place in an earthenware pot, add water, soak briefly, and simmer for 15 minutes. Strain through clean gauze, collect the liquid into a container. Drink as a tea substitute or beverage, divided into morning and evening servings. This is a common dietary therapy for male breast hyperplasia.
2. Rose and Broad Bean Flower Tea Preparation: Wash 6g rose petals and 10g broad bean flowers separately, drain, combine in a teacup, pour boiling water over them, cover, and steep for 10 minutes. This is also beneficial for treating male breast hyperplasia. Can be consumed as a tea substitute or beverage, divided into morning and evening servings.
3. Radish and Jellyfish Skin Salad Preparation: Another dietary remedy for male breast hyperplasia involves washing 200g of white radish, shredding it finely, and mixing thoroughly with 2g of salt. Shred 100g of jellyfish skin, rinse with cold water, soak in cold water to clean, squeeze dry, then combine with the radish shreds in a bowl.Heat 50ml vegetable oil in a wok until hot. Fry 3g chopped scallions until fragrant. Immediately pour over the bowl mixture. Add 5g sugar and 10ml sesame oil, tossing to combine. Serve as a side dish.
