Swelling and bruising in the first few days after surgery may make you forget your desire for a beautiful nose. In fact, many plastic surgery patients feel discouraged during the initial days after rhinoplasty with implants. This is perfectly normal and understandable. To smoothly navigate this unpleasant period of discouragement and witness your nose becoming more beautiful day by day, it is essential to have a clear understanding of common post-operative issues and sufficient mental preparation to cope with them.
Common Post-Rhinoplasty Experiences:
1. Within the first 24 hours, facial swelling, nasal discomfort, and a dull headache may occur. Your doctor will prescribe medication to manage these symptoms. Rest in bed with your head elevated on the first day.
2. Swelling and bruising around the eyes will appear on the first day, peaking on days 2-3. Cold compresses can reduce swelling and discomfort. Swelling typically subsides gradually within 2-3 weeks.
3. Minor bleeding within the first 3 days is common, and nasal congestion may persist for several weeks. Your doctor will instruct you to avoid blowing your nose during this period.
4. Most rhinoplasty patients can walk on the second day post-op and resume normal activities within a week. However, full recovery typically takes 3–4 weeks.
5. Resume normal activities gradually. Avoid strenuous exercise like running or swimming that raises blood pressure for 2–3 weeks. For two months, prevent nasal trauma, abrasions, and excessive sun exposure. Be gentle when washing your face, combing hair, or applying cosmetics.Contact lenses may be worn post-surgery, but eyeglasses should generally wait 3–4 weeks.
