Nasal tip reduction surgery is a highly common rhinoplasty procedure. Given current rhinoplasty techniques in China, nasal tip reduction is not a difficult operation and involves multiple surgical approaches. What does the nasal tip reduction process entail? Let's explore.
Methods for Nasal Tip Reduction Surgery:
1. Cartilage Grafting Technique: Make an incision along the nasal margin inside the nostril or an internal cartilage incision to expose the alar cartilage and lateral nasal cartilage. Depending on the situation, remove the cephalic portion of the alar cartilage or the caudal portion of the lateral nasal cartilage. The harvested cartilage is sculpted and sutured to the apex of the nasal dome, elevating the nasal tip. Alternatively, conchal cartilage from the ear can be harvested for grafting.
2.Bilateral Nasal Alar Cartilage Medial Foot Approximation Rhinoplasty: Make bilateral incisions along the lateral aspect of the columella to expose the medial foot of the alar cartilage and the nasal dome. Resect the soft tissue between the two medial feet, then perform a mattress suture near the upper and lower ends to approximate the medial feet. This technique can elevate the nasal tip by 2-3mm.
3. Nasal Tip Reduction via Alar Base Wedge Resection: For cases where the nasal tip shape is satisfactory but slightly low, a wedge-shaped full-thickness tissue segment is excised from both alar bases. This narrows the nostrils and elevates the dome, thereby lifting the nasal tip.
Nasal Tip Reduction Surgical Procedure:
1.Make an incision along the anterior border of the medial and lateral crura of the alar cartilage, following the nostril margin.
2. Through the incision, dissect the skin from the underlying alar cartilage.
3. Trim the fatty tissue on the surface of the alar cartilage. Then, remove most of the upper and lateral portions of the alar cartilage, preserving only a "┴"-shaped strip of cartilage in the medial and marginal regions.
