What methods are available for nasal tip reshaping? The nasal tip plays a crucial role in overall nasal aesthetics, making tip correction essential for many nasal reshaping procedures. Common techniques include cartilage grafting, alar base wedge resection, and bilateral alar cartilage medial crus approximation.
1. Cartilage Grafting for Nasal Tip Augmentation
The procedure involves making an incision along the nasal margin inside the nostril or an internal cartilage incision to expose the alar cartilage and lateral nasal cartilage. Depending on the situation, the cephalic portion of the alar cartilage or the caudal portion of the lateral nasal cartilage is excised. The harvested cartilage is sculpted and sutured onto the dome of the nasal tip to elevate it. Alternatively, conchal cartilage from the ear can be harvested for grafting.
2. Nasal Tip Augmentation via Alar Base Wedge Resection
When the nasal tip shape is satisfactory but slightly low, a full-thickness wedge-shaped tissue segment is excised from both alar bases. This narrows the nostrils and elevates the nasal dome, thereby lifting the nasal tip.
3. Bilateral Nasal Alar Cartilage Medial Foot Adduction Technique for Nasal Tip Augmentation
Make bilateral columellar lateral incisions to expose the medial feet of the alar cartilages and the nasal dome. Resect soft tissue between the two medial feet, then perform mattress sutures near their upper and lower ends to adduct the medial feet. This technique elevates the nasal tip by 2-3mm.
