Experts advise that in cases of dental implant failure, the implant should be removed immediately. Since implants are considered foreign bodies in the human body, prompt removal is essential upon failure. The extraction procedure is relatively straightforward, comparable to a tooth extraction. Following healing, reimplantation may be possible. Experts note that implant failure can stem from various causes, including the hospital's technical proficiency and facilities. However, the primary factor often relates to the patient's post-operative care. Therefore, patients should observe the following post-operative precautions:
1. On the day of surgery, consume semi-liquid or liquid foods. Until sutures are removed, eat soft foods and avoid chewing with the teeth in the surgical area. For patients who received immediate implants after tooth extraction, avoid chewing hard foods with the implant for three months post-surgery.Avoid smoking, alcohol, and irritating foods. Under your dentist's guidance, supplement with calcium products and increase intake of high-calcium foods and vitamins. 2. Do not brush teeth in the surgical area for 24 hours post-op to prevent wound irritation. Maintain oral hygiene by brushing twice daily and rinsing with mouthwash several times after meals to prevent infection.
3. Minimize movement of the muscles around the surgical area. Avoid excessive facial expressions like laughing or talking frequently for three months post-surgery to prevent wound tearing.
4. Regularly monitor the implant and wound condition. Report any issues to your dentist promptly for immediate resolution.
