Qingmiao Children's Dental Clinic Sees Rising Summer Dental Visits Summer dental visits for children continue to surge, reaching a peak with patient volume doubling compared to usual levels.
Most parents prefer scheduling dental checkups during summer break for greater flexibility. Dentists also recommend summer as an ideal time for student dental care, noting children are more relaxed and cooperative during this period.
Summer is more suitable for orthodontic treatment
A survey by the Orthodontics Committee of the Chinese Stomatological Association shows that the prevalence rates of malocclusion in the deciduous dentition stage, mixed dentition stage, and permanent dentition stage are 51.84%, 71.21%, and 72.97%, respectively.
Parents increasingly choose summer for orthodontic treatment because the initial phase involves complex procedures: oral examinations, X-rays, dental impressions, intraoral photos, facial photos, treatment planning, and trial aligners. This cannot be completed in a short timeframe and requires ample scheduling flexibility. With children's busy academic schedules limiting availability, the extended summer break becomes the optimal time for many parents to pursue orthodontic treatment.
Additionally, Qingmiao Pediatric Dentistry advises that some children may experience initial discomfort when first wearing braces, such as a sensation of chewing on something foreign, tooth sensitivity, or increased saliva production. Regular clinic visits are necessary to monitor progress, and the vacation period allows for better adaptation. Parents should therefore make the most of this "golden time."
Tooth decay is a widespread issue among children's teeth.
According to the "Third National Oral Health Epidemiological Survey," the prevalence of primary tooth decay among 5-year-old children in China is 66.0%. This means that among children under 5, two out of every three have tooth decay.
Why are children prone to cavities? This stems from their behavioral habits and dental characteristics. First, behaviorally, children prefer sweets and snacks, while infants consume more dairy products. Sugars in snacks and lactose in dairy products both contribute to tooth decay.
Qingmiao Pediatric Dentistry recommends bringing children for dental check-ups every 3-6 months.Additionally, children over 3 years old can undergo fluoride application. This involves applying fluoride to the teeth to strengthen enamel, inhibit bacterial growth, and reduce cavities. Secondly, applying pit and fissure sealants to molars can also effectively lower the incidence of molar cavities.
The director of Qingmiao Children's Dental Beijing Huoqiying Clinic stated: "Qingmiao Children's Dental has launched a summer promotion running through late September, aiming to help more children develop healthy teeth and confident smiles from an early age."
