Grapes are among the most popular fruits, with a wide variety of cultivars offering ample choice. But what is the correct way to wash grapes? And what benefits do grape seeds—often overlooked—actually provide?
Nutritional Value of Grapes
The sugars in grapes are easily absorbed by the human body. The primary sugar in grapes is glucose, which is rapidly absorbed by the body. Especially when experiencing low blood sugar, drinking grape juice promptly can quickly alleviate symptoms. French scientists have discovered that grapes are more effective than aspirin at preventing blood clots. They also lower serum cholesterol levels and reduce platelet aggregation, playing a role in preventing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. The flavonoids in grapes act as potent antioxidants, combating aging and eliminating free radicals in the body. Grapes contain an anti-cancer vector element that prevents healthy cells from becoming cancerous and inhibits the spread of cancer cells. Furthermore, grape juice helps transplant patients reduce rejection reactions and promotes faster recovery.Traditional Chinese medicine considers grapes to be neutral in nature and sweet in taste. They nourish the liver and kidneys, generate body fluids, strengthen tendons and bones, replenish qi and blood, and promote urination. They are used as an adjunct treatment for conditions such as spleen deficiency with qi weakness, shortness of breath and fatigue, edema, and difficulty urinating. They protect organs and tissues, preventing heart disease, cancer, premature aging, diabetes, and arteriosclerosis. Anti-allergy: Penetrates cells to fundamentally inhibit the release of histamine, the sensitizing factor, enhancing cellular tolerance to allergens. Clears sensitizing free radicals, combats inflammation and allergies. Stabilizes skin vascular tissues, alleviating symptoms like hives, dry skin fever, and allergic rhinitis.Effectively regulates immunity to fundamentally improve allergic constitutions.
Protects blood vessels by safeguarding cardiovascular health, lowering cholesterol, preventing arteriosclerosis, and guarding against cerebral hemorrhage, stroke, and hemiplegia. Maintains optimal capillary permeability, enhances vascular strength, and reduces capillary fragility. Lowers blood lipids and blood pressure, inhibits thrombus formation, and reduces fatty liver incidence;Prevents edema and broken capillaries caused by fragile vessel walls; alleviates swelling and leg edema, reduces bruising and sports injuries. Improves varicose veins, venous insufficiency, and phlebitis while preventing capillary hemorrhage.
Protects against radiation, effectively preventing and reducing UV damage to skin, inhibiting free radical-induced lipid peroxidation; minimizes harm from computer, phone, and TV radiation to skin and internal organs.
Protects the digestive system and gastric mucosa, preventing gastritis, gastric ulcers, and duodenal ulcers.
Safeguards eyes from radiation damage and prevents red blood vessels; enhances night vision and reduces retinopathy. Inhibits free radical oxidation of lens proteins to prevent cataracts and retinitis.
Finally, here's a handy tip for washing grapes.
Easy Grape Cleaning Trick
Place grapes individually in a basin of water, leaving a small portion of the stem attached.
Add water until it covers the grapes.
Sprinkle some flour (any type is fine—convenience stores are easiest to source) into the water.
Stir the water briefly with your palm.
Drain the cloudy flour water.
The water should now be clear.
Rinse the grapes under running water to remove any remaining flour residue.
The grapes will be clean and ready to eat.Add water until it covers the grapes. Sprinkle some flour into the water (any type of flour works; convenience store flour is easiest to find). Stir the water gently with your palm a few times. Drain the cloudy, floury water, then rinse the grapes several times with clean water until the water runs clear. Flour is a great natural absorbent that removes dirt and oils from fruit and vegetable surfaces. Flour water is also excellent for washing dishes.
Place the grapes in a towel and submerge it in water to rinse. The white bloom will quickly disappear.
Gently rub the grapes with salt to coat the skins evenly, soak for 20 minutes, drain, rinse thoroughly with clean water, and finish with a rinse in cool boiled water. The third method is the most convenient.
