For those interested in weight loss and fitness, the term "enzymes" is likely familiar. Promotions for enzyme-based weight loss products often exaggerate their benefits, promising rapid results with claims like "start today, lose weight tomorrow." Their emphasis on being "all-natural" and "additive-free" further entices many unaware of the truth. But what exactly are enzymes? Are they truly that miraculous? Today, let's uncover the facts together!
0 Can enzymes help you lose weight?
False. It's just false advertising by manufacturers.
"Enzyme" in Japanese refers to enzymes. Later, some also called the products obtained from fermenting fruits and vegetables "enzymes," though these two are clearly not the same thing. However, regardless of how the product is made, manufacturers' promotions invariably use the "enzyme" label.
So let's dissect this "miraculous enzyme."
Those familiar with biology know enzymes play vital roles in the human body. Enzymes are categorized by function, each facilitating specific biochemical reactions—like aiding digestion and accelerating metabolic breakdown. Collectively, these enzymes form the essential foundation for human survival and development.
While manufacturers claim these "enzymes" promote weight loss, if we consider solely the aspect of breaking down and digesting food, it's true that specialized digestive enzymes within the body perform this function. However, whether externally synthesized "enzymes" ingested orally can achieve this remains highly debatable.First, enzymes exhibit specificity—each type performs a distinct function. Second, most enzymes are proteins. Finally, enzymes require specific conditions—including suitable environment, temperature, pH levels, and more—to function effectively.
If the "enzymes" sold by manufacturers are indeed enzymes, they must be composed of proteins. When ingested orally, they inevitably pass through the gastrointestinal tract. Most proteins are hydrolyzed and absorbed by the body's proteases during this transit, never reaching the point where they could exert any effect.Thirdly, even if they somehow survive digestion and reach the small intestine intact, how could they function? Proteins and fats do not react spontaneously when simply combined—otherwise, the digestive tract would malfunction during ingestion. Assuming they are absorbed and then act, proteins must first be broken down into amino acids for absorption. Once their structure is destroyed, they can no longer function.
Therefore, from any perspective, enzyme-based weight loss is unscientific—a weight loss myth promoted by businesses!
0 How to achieve healthy and effective weight loss?
1. Eat more fruits and vegetables.Fruits and vegetables contain abundant enzymes. For those seeking weight loss, consuming more fresh produce is far superior to relying on commercially processed enzyme supplements. Most enzyme products lack any nutritional value. Those who claim to lose weight solely through enzyme supplements are likely starving themselves—a method that is neither healthy nor sustainable and may lead to anorexia over time.Weight loss is best pursued under the guidance of a professional fitness trainer. Consider activities like running, swimming, or yoga for effective weight management. 3. Plan meals wisely. Avoid greasy and fried foods. Opt for lighter, healthier options.
