Many assume endocrine disorders only affect women, but this is not the case. Numerous men also suffer from endocrine imbalances. The endocrine system regulates the body's physiological functions, and male endocrine disorders can lead to infertility. However, many are unaware of the symptoms of male endocrine imbalance. Today, our editor will introduce them to you!
What are the symptoms of male endocrine imbalance?
1. Adrenal Disorders
Conditions such as Addison's disease (adrenal insufficiency), Cushing's syndrome (hypercortisolism), feminizing adrenal tumors, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, and hyperaldosteronism can all cause male infertility.
2. Testicular Endocrine Abnormalities
Primary testicular insufficiency includes common conditions like Klinefelter syndrome, radiation damage, cytotoxic injury, and malnutrition. Secondary testicular insufficiency manifests in disorders such as Kallmann syndrome and male pseudohermaphroditism due to androgen receptor deficiency.
3. Thyroid disorders
Severe hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism can impair reproductive function. Hypothyroidism reduces testosterone synthesis, inhibits spermatogenesis, and causes sexual dysfunction. Hyperthyroidism often presents with gynecomastia, decreased libido, and erectile dysfunction.
4. Pituitary Disorders
Pituitary hyperfunction may initially present with increased libido and body shape changes, followed by decreased libido, abnormal semen, erectile dysfunction, and infertility.Pituitary insufficiency, caused by pituitary tumors, inflammation, surgical damage, or radiation therapy, results in reduced libido, diminished sexual performance, testicular atrophy, and impaired sperm production. Pituitary tumors can elevate blood prolactin levels, interfering with LH secretion and inhibiting testicular spermatogenesis, leading to erectile dysfunction and male infertility.
