When I was little, I loved bubble gum, especially blowing huge bubbles—it always gave me such a sense of accomplishment. But kids get sleepy after playing for a while, and sometimes I'd fall asleep mid-chew. When I woke up, I'd find bubble gum all over my clothes and hair—no idea how it happened. Oh boy, my mom was furious! Haha. The absolute worst was accidentally swallowing the gum. What on earth could I do? What happens if gum gets stuck in your stomach?
Actually, there's no need to panic if gum ends up in your stomach. Since bubble gum is made from synthetic or natural rubber, this edible rubber is indigestible. Even if you accidentally swallow it, it will eventually pass through your digestive system and be expelled from your body without causing any harm.Still, for children's health, it's best to avoid chewing gum altogether.
But what if gum gets stuck on clothes? Here are a few handy tricks.
1. Wrap the garment in a plastic bag and freeze it for half a day. Once the gum hardens, gently rub it off—it'll come right out without leaving a trace.
2. For gum residue on clothing, first scrape off as much as possible with a small knife. Apply egg white to the remaining residue to loosen it, then wipe it away bit by bit. Finally, wash the garment in soapy water and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
3. For clothes with gum stuck to them, use a cotton ball dipped in vinegar to easily wipe the gum away.
4. When clothes get gum on them, avoid wrinkling the fabric where the gum is stuck and don't panic by trying to pull it off immediately, as this can push the gum deeper into the fabric fibers.Alternatively, soak the garment in cold water until the gum hardens, then carefully peel it off. Any remaining residue can be removed with nail polish remover. If stains persist, use volatile oil or nail polish remover to eliminate them.
5. If gum sticks to clothing, place the garment in the freezer until the gum hardens. It will then come off easily.
6. If gum accidentally sticks to clothing, simply press an ice cube onto it for easy removal.
Essentially, cooling the gum is key—once chilled, it naturally detaches.
