Taixi Point: The "Yangtze River" of Kidney Meridian Vitality. As the source point of the Kidney Meridian, ancient practitioners regarded Taixi as one of the "Nine Points for Restoring Yang," crediting it with exceptional efficacy in restoring vitality and reversing collapse. Massage techniques need not be rigid; approximately 5 minutes per session suffices.
2. Qihai Point
Qihai is known as the "Sea of Original Qi," a pivotal site where yang energy vaporizes yin fluids, transforming them into vital mist to nourish the entire body. Ancient physicians believed that regular massage or moxibustion here directs heart fire downward to the kidneys while lifting kidney water upward to the heart and lungs—an effect likened to the sun rising to illuminate rivers and seas. The Qihai point is located on the anterior midline of the body, 1.5 cun (approximately two finger-widths) below the navel.
Massage method: Press this point with your thumb. When you feel a sensation of soreness and distension or a sensation of qi moving up and down within the point, continue kneading for 10 minutes. Massage this point once daily.
3. Yongquan Point
Yongquan Point, the "longevity point" for tonifying the kidneys and consolidating essence. Located at the junction of the anterior third of the sole's midline—the depression formed when the toes are flexed.
Regularly massaging Yongquan stimulates kidney meridian energy, unblocks meridian pathways, harmonizes kidney qi and blood, and regulates kidney function. This promotes abundant kidney essence, sharp hearing and vision, abundant energy, and vigorous walking. Place the tip of your thumb or index finger on the Yongquan point in the center of the sole. Rub back and forth, ideally 100 times daily.
4. Mingmen Point
Located on the midline of the back at the waist, in the depression below the spinous process of the second lumbar vertebra.Pressing this point elicits intense tenderness. As the foundation of the five viscera and six bowels, the root of the twelve meridians, the origin of respiration, and the base of the triple burner, it is also known as the guardian spirit against pathogens. Generally regarded as the gateway of life and the site where essence evaporates, it effectively fortifies the root and nourishes the foundation for those with deficient kidney qi and declining vitality.
It primarily treats lower back pain, lumbar sprains, and sciatica. It is particularly effective for impotence, nocturnal emissions, irregular menstruation, headaches, tinnitus, and cold extremities. This point is essential for moxibustion therapy in pediatric enuresis. Long-term pressure on this point provides excellent health maintenance and regulation.
5. Kidney Shu (BL23)
Kidney Shu is a primary point on the Kidney Meridian. Regular pressure strengthens kidney qi and enhances kidney function, particularly beneficial for irregular menstruation and sexual frigidity. Women experiencing menstrual irregularities may try massaging this point to alleviate such concerns.
