Characteristics of Reverse Thinking: Viewing problems from a different angle. Want your child to be smarter? Train them in reverse thinking! Here, we've specially prepared several games to help your child develop this valuable skill.
POINT 1: Ages 3–4 – Foundational Stage
Children aged 3–4 are in the intuitive-motor thinking stage. At this stage, the focus is on developing motor coordination to lay the groundwork for future cognitive development. In terms of thinking scope, children at this age lack depth and breadth. It is generally not feasible to engage them in deep reverse thinking exercises.
Reverse thinking training at this stage should focus on creating a relaxed, fun, and enjoyable play environment. This sparks their interest in thinking, encourages hands-on exploration, and keeps them actively engaged.
NO.1 Crying-Laughing Dolls
Game Objective: Develop reverse thinking and mental flexibility through quick reactions.
How to Play: Play the classic game "Rock, Paper, Scissors" with your child! But this time, add a twist: each time, the winner must make a "cry" gesture, while the loser must make a "laugh" gesture. Whoever makes the wrong gesture first is eliminated and must admit defeat!
NO.2 Reverse Commands
Game Objective: Train children to perform opposite actions based on commands, enhancing reverse thinking and mental agility.
How to Play: When you say "Stand up," the child must stay seated; when you say "Raise your left hand," they raise their right hand; when you say "Walk forward," they walk backward...In short, the child must do the opposite of what you say. If they make a mistake, they lose. This is a fantastic family game!
NO.3 Tall and Short
Game Objective: Develop children's reverse thinking and spatial awareness through hands-on activities.
Game Preparation: Square, rectangular, and circular blocks; three figures of varying heights.
Game Play: Place the blocks under the figures to make them appear the same height.
Gameplay: This is a perfect two-player game for you and your child. Place square, rectangular, and circular blocks under the three figures to make them appear the same height. Then have your child determine which figure is tallest and which is shortest based on the number of blocks beneath them.
