For modern individuals who sit for extended periods and endure high stress, localized pain isn't necessarily indicative of disease. Relief can often be achieved through specific exercises or breathing techniques that alleviate physical and mental tension. Recently, the U.S. website "Daily Health" summarized effective methods for reducing common pains. 1. Tilt your pelvis to relieve back pain. Back pain is the most common complaint among office workers who sit for long hours. Practicing pelvic tilts at your desk can "activate" your lower back and spine.Imagine your pelvis as a bowl filled with water. Tilt the "bowl" forward, arching your lower back, then tilt backward to straighten it. Repeat several times when discomfort arises.
2. Flex and extend your hips to relax your glutes. Prolonged computer use tightens the gluteal muscles, causing pain. The key to relief is moving your body in the opposite direction.Stand up, bring one heel close to your buttocks, and grasp that foot behind your back to stretch the quadriceps. Those with extra flexibility can move the knee forward and backward to activate the glutes and stretch the hip muscles. 3. Deep breathing to reduce shoulder stiffness. Stress causes shallow breathing, leading to stiffness and tension in the upper back, neck, and shoulders.Changing your breathing pattern is key to relaxation. Practice slow, deep abdominal breathing. As you inhale, feel your abdomen expand outward; as you exhale, feel it contract inward. 4. Sitting upright can reduce neck pain. Pain in the back of the neck is often caused by leaning your head forward excessively while looking at a computer. Remind yourself to "pull" your head back to its center position, directly above your shoulders.
5. Periodically clench and unclench your fists. Prolonged typing can cause pain in the hands and wrists. Clench both fists for 3 seconds, then release and spread your fingers. Repeat this 3-5 times every half hour.
6. "Toe yoga" alleviates foot pain.To alleviate foot pain from prolonged standing, practice toe yoga: while standing, lift your big toe off the ground while keeping the other four toes firmly planted; then lift the other four toes while keeping the big toe stationary.
7. Massage to relieve headaches. Headaches have many triggers, one common cause being prolonged sitting at a desk, which leads to tense head muscles.Roll a massage ball back and forth across the back of your head to release muscle tension.
8. Yoga eases menstrual cramps. A study by health management researchers at I-Shou University in Taiwan, published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, found that specific yoga poses (such as Cat-Cow Pose, Child's Pose, and Downward-Facing Dog) combined with breathing techniques can alleviate menstrual pain.
