Who hasn't stumbled and sprained an ankle in life? After such an injury, most people apply safflower oil externally to ease the pain.Safflower oil has effects like relaxing muscles and tendons, promoting circulation, reducing swelling, and relieving pain, making it quite effective for sprains. But when using safflower oil after a sprain, are you applying it correctly? How should you properly use safflower oil after a sprain?
1. Don't apply safflower oil immediately after a sprain
Many people immediately massage the affected area with safflower oil after a sprain, but this practice is actually incorrect.Medical experts indicate that the first 24 hours after a sprain constitute an acute phase. During this period, small blood vessels surrounding the subcutaneous soft tissue rupture. Applying Honghua Oil immediately may exacerbate swelling in the affected area. Therefore, after a sprain, it is recommended to apply a cold compress first. Avoid hot compresses and refrain from applying any medications that promote blood circulation or disperse blood stasis. It is best to wait at least 24 hours before using Honghua Oil.
2. Early Stage of Sprain: Apply Topically Only, Avoid Massage
During the initial phase (within 24-48 hours post-injury), damaged capillaries in the subcutaneous soft tissue remain ruptured and unhealed. Patients should rest and minimize activity. Apply Honghua Oil by spraying it onto gauze for topical use. Avoid massaging the area, as this may counteract the treatment.
3. Mid-to-late stages of sprain: Gently massage, gradually increasing dosage and intensity
Two days after the sprain, swelling and bleeding may be effectively controlled, and damaged tissues begin to recover. At this stage, gently massage the affected area with your fingers, focusing on the painful points and gradually working outward. As the condition improves, gradually increase the amount of Honghua Oil and apply firmer pressure to enhance its blood-activating and stasis-resolving effects, accelerating recovery.
However, while effective, Honghua Oil should be used with caution by those with allergies!Due to its complex composition, allergic reactions to Honghua Oil may cause rashes, allergic purpura, or similar symptoms. Therefore, before using Honghua Oil, it is advisable to apply a small amount to the hand. If an allergic reaction occurs, discontinue use immediately. Additionally, Honghua Oil is not recommended for wounds with ulceration, bleeding, or exudate, as it may worsen symptoms and hinder wound healing.
