We've all experienced sudden stomach pain in daily life. When it happens, we might ask someone nearby to rub our stomach or make frequent trips to the bathroom. But are these methods appropriate and effective? Here's a reminder: sometimes rubbing your stomach during pain is not advisable. Let's explore the types of stomach pain that absolutely should not be rubbed.
1. When suffering from gastric or duodenal ulcers, excessive alcohol consumption often leads to ulcer perforation or vascular rupture at the ulcer site, causing severe abdominal pain. Rubbing the abdomen at this time provides mechanical stimulation that can worsen the ulcer damage, aggravate the condition, and even become life-threatening.
2. Acute suppurative peritonitis and appendicitis are common internal medicine conditions.
While abdominal pain occurs during onset, the inflammation is localized. Prompt medical attention often effectively controls the inflammation. Rubbing the abdomen to relieve pain at this stage can accelerate the spread of inflammation, effectively "adding fuel to the fire."
3.Intestinal obstruction may also occur due to factors like massed roundworms or twisted adhesions,
impeding the passage of intestinal contents. Rubbing the abdomen to relieve pain without understanding the cause can cause worms to wriggle violently under pressure, potentially leading to biliary ascariasis or even intestinal perforation. Similarly, rubbing may worsen obstruction and intensify pain in other types of intestinal blockages.
Furthermore, abdominal pain stemming from conditions like cholecystitis or ruptured liver/spleen makes abdominal massage akin to adding insult to injury.
Abdominal pain can arise from numerous diseases, so one must never casually resort to abdominal massage for pain relief. Upon experiencing abdominal pain, seek prompt medical attention. After a clear diagnosis by a doctor, undergo necessary treatment measures. Avoid blindly taking medication or employing improper methods.
