Ingredients: 500g Chinese yam, 250g each of euryale seed and japonica rice, optionally plus 100–150g chopped Chinese chives.
Preparation: Steam yam until tender, peel and mash. Steam water chestnuts until tender, remove shells, and mash. Simmer yam, water chestnut paste, and japonica rice over low heat into porridge. Consume on an empty stomach. Adding chopped chives enhances efficacy.
Effects: Nourishes deficiency-heat, strengthens primordial yang, boosts qi, and fortifies willpower.
Indications: Chronic illness or deficiency-syndrome causing impotence, nocturnal emission, emaciation, fatigue, and listlessness.The Compendium of Materia Medica records: "It benefits kidney qi and fortifies the spleen and stomach," truly a superior tonic. Euryale seed fortifies the kidneys and consolidates essence. Combined with Chinese yam, it provides both tonification and astringency, replenishing qi and yin while halting seminal emission. This formula is convenient to prepare and serves as a commonly used daily remedy.
Chive Porridge

Ingredients: 30–60g fresh chives or 5–10g dried chive stems, 100g japonica rice, a pinch of salt.
Preparation: Wash fresh leeks and chop finely, or grind dried leek stems into a fine powder. Cook japonica rice into porridge. When nearly done, add leeks or leek stem powder and salt, then simmer until porridge is ready.
Indications: Impotence and premature ejaculation due to spleen-kidney yang deficiency, frequent urination, cold soreness in the lower back and knees, abdominal cold pain, diarrhea, etc.The Compendium of Materia Medica states: "Leek porridge warms the middle and lower burner." It nourishes the liver and kidneys, fortifies yang, and secures essence. Combined with japonica rice, it tonifies the liver and kidneys while warming the middle burner and strengthening the spleen. The Dietary Therapy Guide records: "Leek porridge warms the middle and lower burner, primarily treating cold weakness in the lower back and knees." Long-term consumption yields favorable results for those with these symptoms.
