We all know beer aids digestion and stimulates appetite, with many treating it as a daily soft drink—even hailing it as "liquid bread." Especially in summer, beer becomes a favored accompaniment to meals. However, British scientists recently issued a warning: beer directly impacts male fertility.According to reports, Lynn Fraser, a fertility expert at King's College London, studied three chemicals affecting fertility: genistein from soybeans and other legumes, 8-prenylnaringenin from hops, and nonylphenol from detergents, paints, herbicides, and pesticides.Scientists discovered these substances mimic estrogen's effects, impairing sperm motility and reducing male fertility.
Additionally, some experts note that when sperm encounters an egg, it releases an enzyme to penetrate the egg's outer membrane. Estrogen can stimulate sperm activity. If immature sperm are prematurely stimulated and release enzymes before encountering an egg, they may be unable to penetrate the membrane when needed, inevitably affecting fertility.
Therefore, understanding that beer may contribute to male infertility, young adults of reproductive age should consider beer consumption as a factor in preventing infertility. Moderate beer intake is advisable; excessive drinking should be avoided.
