Men's Physical Health: Five Stages of Male Physiological Needs? From the awkward shyness of adolescence to the anxious solitude of later years, men traverse distinct phases. Yet their entire lives seem marked by a constant battle between releasing and controlling sexual urges. Men's focus on sexual matters begins with the onset of puberty.
The Uncontrollable Phase (Before Age 18)
Men's preoccupation with sexuality begins with the onset of puberty. After years of dormancy, that part of the body awakens with unstoppable force. The agony lies in its unpredictable nature—erections can strike at any time, any place. This happens even in the heat of summer, when scantily clad, or when called to the front of the classroom to recite lessons before classmates.
It seems increasingly difficult to control. Some boys who shone brightly in school achieve even greater success in society, largely because they learned to manage their instincts appropriately. But how hard that is! As his body matures, he often fantasizes about being intimate with a woman—who she is or whether she's beautiful matters little.
The Fiery Phase (18–28 years old)
A man's emotions gradually stabilize. Sex is no longer the sole focus; emotions and career also come into play, and he may achieve success in these areas. If a man reaches this stage without ambition, he will accomplish nothing in life. Yet he is not yet strong enough, and his desire to prove himself is intense. He cares far more about possessing than about suitability.
When pursuing women, he'll often declare earnestly: "I love you, truly, forever and always..." Yet women often struggle to endure his intensity, leading relationships to fizzle out. This phase also marks a period of deepening understanding between men and women.
The Charming Phase (29–38)
After years of trials and tribulations, he has grown remarkably steady, carrying himself with grace and poise. He has mastered emotional control, and crucially, he has established his own career. He radiates confidence while understanding that intimacy is a two-way street. Rejection no longer leaves him heartbroken as it once did.
He handles everything with effortless grace, for women no longer hold any mystery for him. His desire for sex has largely given way to mutual support with his partner. He appreciates a woman's charm and knows how to make his own charm felt; he avoids putting women or himself in awkward situations. In a state of calm, he stirs the waves within a woman's heart.
The Maintenance Phase (39–55)
A daunting reality emerges: sexual desire wanes, though erotic fantasies still arise upon encountering attractive women. He has mastered emotional control, yet this very calmness breeds anxiety. Seeking conscious or unconscious compensation, he craves the warmth of family life—his wife, children, weekends spent at home.
As vital organs begin to age and hair gradually thins, he often wallows in self-pity, fantasizing about reclaiming lost youth. Thus, when encountering women who admire him, he easily strays. Yet these affairs rarely endure and often end in tragedy.
The Nostalgic Phase (After Age 56)
Though sexuality may have once brought pain and hurt to every man, the complete loss of desire for it now breeds a fear that life is nearing its end. Entering this phase, they largely distance themselves from sex, preferring to channel their interests elsewhere—into activities like chess or gardening, and of course, into reminiscing about the fleeting years of youth.
Surveys indicate that when couples cease sexual activity, 95% of the time it is initiated by the man—though this is unfair to women. Men perceive themselves as toothless and balding, their sexual organs shrinking, and their attractiveness completely gone. In reality, this is the mind being influenced by the body. If they can adjust their mindset, they too can enjoy satisfying sexual relationships.
