What are the risks of semen retention for men?

Ancient medical texts propagated a mistaken belief that semen was more precious than blood, encapsulated in the saying "One drop of semen is worth ten drops of blood."This belief held that ejaculation severely depleted "vital energy," leading to the practice of "preserving semen" to conserve this energy. Specifically, this involved using mental control, sexual movement regulation, or breath adjustment during intercourse to forcibly suppress ejaculation.
Modern medicine has proven that "suppressing ejaculation" offers no health benefits and carries at least three major risks:
1. Causing anejaculation
Habitual suppression of ejaculation, once ingrained, can eventually induce anejaculation.Moderate sexual activity, especially when aligned with one's natural physiological rhythms, promotes mental clarity, emotional well-being, and physical vitality without causing significant depletion of vital energy. Therefore, the practice of "holding back ejaculation" should be abandoned.
2. Causes localized discomfort
>Interrupting intercourse before ejaculation prevents the rapid dissipation of blood congestion in the reproductive system and pelvic area. The cerebral cortex and spinal cord remain in a prolonged state of tension, while the seminal vesicles and prostate remain unemptied. This can result in a sensation of heaviness and fullness in the lower body afterward. Ultimately, it may trigger non-bacterial prostatitis and seminal vesiculitis, leading to symptoms such as frequent urination, incomplete voiding, perineal discomfort, or even hematospermia.3. Incomplete sexual intercourse is detrimental to health. When a man stops intercourse before reaching ejaculation, it is medically termed incomplete sexual intercourse. Forcing oneself to "hold back" involves both the physiological progression of ejaculation and the mental effort to suppress it. This disrupts the normal functioning of the nervous and endocrine systems, posing significant health risks.
