Facial hair distinguishes men from women. Most men shave every few days, while some with rapid growth shave daily. Shaving has become an indispensable part of men's lives. So how can men achieve a better shave? Let's explore how men should choose razors and perform proper shaving techniques.
Facial hair is uniquely masculine, and neglecting it can affect one's appearance. But do you know what men should pay attention to when shaving?
Most men shave regularly, yet shaving isn't something to be done carelessly. It requires careful consideration. So, how should you choose a razor? And what constitutes a proper shave?
1. Choose Based on Habits
Shaving habits dictate your razor choice. Frequent travelers should opt for rechargeable or battery-powered razors for portability. Those who shave in the shower need slip-resistant razors to prevent accidents.
2. Consider beard type
Shaver selection primarily depends on beard density. For daily shavers, oscillating shavers are ideal. Those with sparse beards who shave infrequently may opt for larger-area rotary shavers for faster results. For very dense beards, consider a multi-head rotary razor for a closer shave.
3. Skin Type Considerations
Everyone's skin is different, so ensure the razor suits your skin type. Using the wrong one can cause redness, swelling, or irritation—the opposite of what you want. Therefore, always choose a razor that won't damage your skin.
How to Shave Correctly:
1. Apply a Hot Towel to Your Beard
Before shaving, soften your stiff beard hair by applying a hot towel for about one minute.
2. Apply shaving foam
After slightly softening the beard, apply shaving foam. This further softens the hair and protects the skin.
3. Shave with the grain
Before shaving, rinse your razor in hot water to remove bacteria. Begin shaving by following the direction of hair growth. This ensures thorough coverage while minimizing skin irritation from the razor.
4. Dry skin and apply aftershave
After shaving, care is essential. First, thoroughly dry the shaved area, then gently apply aftershave. Aftershave helps reduce inflammation and soothe skin sensitivity, making it an excellent post-shave treatment.
Men who rarely shave have higher disease rates:
Researchers published a report in the American Journal of Infectious Diseases stating that over 20 years, 835 participants died. Overall, 45% of those who didn't shave daily passed away, compared to 31% of those who shaved at least once daily. The higher mortality among infrequent shavers correlates with greater smoking rates and poorer lifestyle habits. While this doesn't fully explain their increased stroke risk, it indicates a link between shaving frequency and disease susceptibility.
Findings reveal that infrequent shavers are predominantly unmarried blue-collar workers;experienced fewer sexual climaxes, were shorter in stature, and were more prone to angina.
Additionally, Professor Shah Ebrahim from the Department of Social Medicine stated in a declaration: "The higher mortality rate among infrequent shavers may stem from smoking and certain social factors, though a small portion could be influenced by hormones."He suggested that men who shave less frequently may experience fewer sexual climaxes due to lower testosterone levels or simply because they are unmarried and thus have fewer opportunities for sexual activity. Regarding the higher risk of stroke, one possible explanation is that circulating levels of sex hormones may influence the extent of fat deposits in arteries.
Choosing the right razor is crucial for men. Shaving isn't something you can do with just any old razor. In the past, men with limited means had to settle for whatever razor they could afford. But now that conditions have improved, men should be particular about their shaving routine and select a razor that suits them. The quality of the blades directly affects both the comfort of the shave and the growth of facial hair!
