3. Salt rinse method
After soaking, add a pinch of salt to the water and rinse the mushrooms thoroughly. Rub them repeatedly to remove fine debris and residual sand particles. Drain and rinse again with clean water to ensure they are thoroughly cleaned.
4. Avoid over-soaking
High-quality dried wood ear mushrooms typically expand to 20-30 times their original volume when soaked. For a single meal, limit soaking to a small handful—just enough to fill one hand.
If you soak more than needed and cannot consume it all at once, simply drain the mushrooms thoroughly, transfer them to a resealable plastic bag, seal tightly, and store in the refrigerator's crisper drawer. This method typically extends shelf life by about a week.
