With increasingly fierce job competition, many job seekers resort to subtle "disguises" to win over interviewers. However, Harvard Business Review recently cautioned against lying about these four critical matters during interviews:
1. Living close to the company.If you live far away, it's best not to conceal this during the interview. You can share your current address while emphasizing your willingness to relocate for the job. Claiming proximity when you actually live far away could backfire in later rounds. Interviewers might give short notice, leaving you with little preparation time and potentially facing difficulties booking transportation or accommodations.
2. Claiming high compensation from your previous job. If asked about your previous salary, always be truthful. Some employers may even request pay stub copies for verification. Exaggerating your salary will make the interviewer question your professionalism. If you prefer not to discuss compensation, simply state that your previous salary is irrelevant to this position.
3. My GPA is excellent. Don't assume inflating your GPA will secure you the job. Some companies may request copies of your official transcripts from your school or previous employer.
4. I wasn't fired. If you were terminated, don't fear disclosing this fact to the interviewer. Simply explain what you learned from that experience.
