1. For optimal whitening results, always brush your teeth first to ensure a clean mouth. Avoid applying whitening trays immediately after brushing; wait 20–30 minutes before inserting them.
2. Address any existing cavities or gum disease before whitening. If gum discomfort occurs during treatment, stop immediately and follow your dentist's instructions.
3. Refrain from smoking for at least two hours before whitening procedures.
3. If you smoke, refrain from smoking for at least 2 hours before whitening treatment.
4. Do not eat or drink while wearing the whitening tray, especially foods and beverages containing pigments like black tea or cola.
5. For optimal whitening results, wear the whitening tray for at least 5 hours. Removing it before 5 hours due to inconvenience will not yield effective results.
6. Whitening cannot be performed on artificial teeth. Therefore, if you plan to get artificial teeth, it's best to undergo whitening before the procedure. Whitening artificial teeth after they're placed can create an unnatural color mismatch with your natural teeth. However, whitening won't significantly affect dentures.
7. If you experience tooth sensitivity during whitening treatment, temporarily pause the procedure and resume after a period. If sensitivity is severe, consult your dentist.
8. Avoid foods high in acidic components, such as carbonated drinks and fruits, as they can irritate teeth.
9. Avoid extremely hot or cold foods.
10. When gums appear significantly whitened, avoid vigorous brushing and refrain from using fluoride toothpaste. Whitening results will become visible after one month.
11. Whitening trays may deform when exposed to hot water. Clean them gently with cool water.
12. Permanent teeth are generally fully developed by age 16, making teeth whitening suitable for most individuals. However, safety has not been confirmed for pregnant women or those breastfeeding, so it is best avoided.
14. After whitening treatment, schedule a checkup every 6 months to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
15. Whitening results are not permanent. Maintain good oral hygiene to prevent discoloration. The longevity of whitening effects depends on your daily dental care routine.
Candidates for Teeth Whitening:
1.Mild to moderate tetracycline staining, fluorosis, or other discoloration factors, including hereditary yellow-black teeth, typically achieve satisfactory results with one session of cold light whitening.
2. Severe tetracycline staining, fluorosis, or other discoloration factors, including yellow teeth, generally require two or more cold light whitening sessions (spaced one week apart, maximum two weeks) to achieve satisfactory whitening results.
3. Severe tetracycline staining, fluorosis, or other discoloration accompanied by enamel hypoplasia may require multiple light-activated whitening sessions under professional supervision to achieve noticeable improvement. Porcelain veneers may also be considered as an alternative restoration option.
Experts caution that certain individuals are unsuitable for cold light teeth whitening: those under 16 years old and pregnant women should not undergo this procedure. Additionally, patients with periodontal disease must complete treatment before proceeding with cold light whitening.
