Various materials are used for rhinoplasty, and each individual's goals differ. Therefore, it is best to consult thoroughly with a professional plastic surgeon to customize the most suitable rhinoplasty plan and select the most appropriate material. Rhinoplasty materials include:
1. Polyacrylamide Hydrogel (also known as: Omedin, Ingelfer): Once widely popular for rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, and temporal augmentation, it has been banned due to its harmful effects on the body and tendency to migrate.
2. Hydroxyapatite: A synthetic powder substance mixed with saline solution and injected under the nasal skin. While simple to administer with low technical requirements, it is extremely difficult to remove if the rhinoplasty results are unsatisfactory. Consequently, it is now rarely used.
3. Collagen: Extracted from bovine serum, it carries a risk of rejection and has low strength. It is only suitable for small areas like the nasal root.
IV. Autologous Bone or Cartilage: Harvested from the patient's own cancellous bone, rib cartilage, or ear cartilage, then sculpted into shape. As the patient's own material, it causes no rejection post-transplantation, making it the ideal rhinoplasty material. However, obtaining these bones requires additional surgical sites elsewhere on the body.
