Post-operative hematoma formation in rhinoplasty often stems from dissection of nasal cavities during implant placement. This procedure is typically performed under blind visualization, making precise and timely hemostasis of injured tissues challenging. Additionally, the nasal region features dense vascular distribution and exceptionally rich tissue vascularity, potentially leading to postoperative hematoma or blood accumulation within the dissected spaces.
Minor blood accumulation or hematomas after rhinoplasty may resolve spontaneously without intervention. However, excessive hematomas require aspiration using syringes or similar tools. Failure to address them promptly can prolong absorption time, potentially compromising surgical outcomes. Persistent hematomas also increase the risk of postoperative infection.
Preventive Measures:
1. Preoperatively, inquire about bleeding disorders or bleeding tendencies. Conduct routine coagulation tests to rule out bleeding disorders whenever possible.
2. Apply moderate pressure after implant placement to aid hemostasis.
3. Injecting surface hemostatic agents or protein gels into the cavity may also be effective.
