Four Critical Factors Determining Rhinoplasty Success

While cosmetic surgery carries risks, many complications from minor procedures often stem from inadequate post-operative care by patients. If you're considering rhinoplasty, pay close attention to the following post-operative care guidelines.
Should I apply cold compresses after rhinoplasty?
Swelling is common during the recovery period. Experts recommend cold compresses for the first 2-3 days, followed by warm compresses for days 3-4. Cold compresses help constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling in the early stages, while warm compresses promote blood circulation and aid healing later on.
When can I perm or dye my hair after rhinoplasty?
Avoid hair coloring or perming for one month post-surgery. This applies not only to nose and eye procedures but also to facial contouring surgeries. Chemical hair treatments can severely damage hair follicles and pigment cells, and they are highly irritating to the skin's surface. Coloring or perming can easily lead to infection at the surgical site, cause skin inflammation, and delay wound healing.
Can I sleep on my stomach after rhinoplasty?
Many assume implants easily shift post-surgery, but this is unlikely. Within the first week, doctors secure the implant with bandages and splints. Unless deliberately bumped, the implant generally stays in place. Thus, sleeping position typically doesn't affect recovery. However, avoid putting pressure on your nose for the first week.
What if the splint falls off before sutures are removed?
It's common for surgical bandages to come loose on their own. If this occurs after rhinoplasty, contact your surgeon immediately to find a solution.
Additionally, to achieve optimal results from rhinoplasty, the surgical site must be kept clean and dry to prevent infection. After rhinoplasty, avoid spicy or irritating foods, refrain from pressing on the surgical area, prevent any bumps or abrasions to the nose, temporarily avoid wearing glasses, and minimize pressure on the nose.
