Within 24 hours after rhinoplasty, your face will swell, and you may experience nasal pain and a dull headache. Your doctor will prescribe medication to manage these discomforts. On the first day post-surgery, it is best to remain lying down (except when using the restroom) with your head elevated.
You will notice swelling and bruising around your eyes starting on day 1, peaking on days 2-3. Applying cold compresses can help reduce some swelling and make you feel more comfortable. Swelling typically subsides gradually over 2-3 weeks post-surgery.
Minor bleeding in the first few days is common. You may experience nasal congestion for several weeks afterward; your doctor will instruct you not to blow your nose during this period.
Most rhinoplasty patients can get out of bed on the second day post-op and resume studies within a week, though full recovery typically takes 3-4 weeks.
Resume normal activities gradually. Avoid strenuous exercise like running or swimming that raises blood pressure for 2-3 weeks. For two months, prevent nasal trauma, abrasions, and excessive sun exposure. Be gentle when washing your face, combing hair, or applying cosmetics.Contact lenses may be worn post-surgery, but eyeglasses should generally wait 3-4 weeks. Swelling and bruising in the first few days may make you forget your nose will look better. In fact, many plastic surgery patients feel discouraged during this initial period—this is perfectly normal and understandable. Rest helps you smoothly navigate this unpleasant phase.Your nose will improve day by day, and your spirits will gradually lift. After 1-2 weeks, you will look as if you never had surgery.
