Currently, many women opt for surgical breast augmentation. There are several methods: autologous fat transfer, implant-based augmentation, and injectable augmentation. Regardless of the chosen procedure, thorough preoperative understanding and preparation are essential. This includes knowing the pros and cons of each method, suitable candidates, and expected outcomes.
Implant Materials: Silicone gel implants are most commonly used due to their natural feel and texture closest to real breast tissue. Regarding cancer concerns, no cases of implant-related cancer have been reported. Saline implants are safer; even if leakage occurs, the saline solution poses no harm to the body. However, their texture is less natural.
Incision: Common incision sites include the inframammary fold, within the areola, and the axilla. In practice, all three incision types leave minimal visible scarring. Only a small number of individuals may experience slightly larger scars or scar tissue thickening. For Chinese women, sizes typically range between 180-250 milliliters.
Pre- and Post-operative Considerations: Avoid scheduling breast augmentation within three days before or after menstruation. Patients should not have severe cardiovascular, pulmonary, hepatic, renal, or bleeding disorders. Pre-operative blood tests, including complete blood count and platelet count, are required. On the first post-operative day, significant swelling and discomfort are common, gradually improving thereafter. Some may experience shoulder/back soreness, fatigue, chest tightness, or pressure sensations, which typically subside as the body adapts.
