Yoga is a highly systematic and trendy exercise. Many practitioners pay close attention to yoga-friendly diets—a wise detail. Whether you practice weight-loss yoga or body-shaping yoga, adhering to basic dietary principles is essential. Here are key guidelines:
1. Avoid overeating at dinner
① An unsettled stomach leads to restless sleep.Overeating at dinner inevitably burdens the digestive system.
Constant signals of digestive strain transmitted to the brain can cause insomnia and vivid dreams. Over time, this may lead to conditions like neurasthenia.
② Chronic overeating at dinner repeatedly triggers excessive insulin secretion, overloading pancreatic beta cells. This can lead to beta cell exhaustion and potentially induce diabetes.
③ Excessive evening meals inevitably leave undigested proteins. Under the influence of intestinal bacteria, these produce toxic substances. Combined with slowed intestinal motility during sleep,
the prolonged retention of these substances in the gut may promote colorectal cancer.
This is because the metabolic activity of the liver, adipose tissue, and muscles—key players in glucose metabolism—fluctuates throughout the day.
Modern biomedical research confirms that metabolic processes exhibit distinct patterns across the 24-hour cycle.
Fundamentally, metabolic activity responds to variations in sunlight intensity.
Concurrently, bodily functions are significantly influenced by whether the body is at rest or active.
White sugar is broken down during digestion into fructose and glucose, which are absorbed by the body and converted into energy and fat respectively.
Since exercise suppresses insulin secretion, it also inhibits the conversion of white sugar into fat.
Therefore, exercising immediately after consuming white sugar
can suppress the rise in blood triglyceride levels.
Conversely, resting immediately after consuming white sugar yields the opposite effect, leading to weight gain over time.
3. Vegetarian Dinners Are Optimal
Medical research reveals that individuals who frequently consume meat for dinner have lipid levels three to four times higher than those who regularly eat vegetarian meals.
For those with hyperlipidemia or hypertension, regularly eating meat for dinner is like adding fuel to the fire.
Excessive calorie intake at dinner easily elevates cholesterol levels.
Over time, accumulated cholesterol on blood vessel walls can trigger atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease.
4. Avoid late dinners
Yoga dietary principles advise against eating within two hours of bedtime.
Therefore, dinner should not be consumed too late, as this increases the risk of urinary tract stones.
The body's peak urination period typically occurs 4 to 5 hours after eating. If dinner is delayed—
for instance, eaten at 8 or 9 PM—the peak urination period shifts to after midnight.
