Medical Guidance: Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Many people seek coolness in summer by dressing lightly and then entering air-conditioned rooms, which easily exposes the Dazhui acupoint to cold. Cold exposure at this point can readily cause headaches, sore throats, sneezing, and other symptoms.In fact, the Dazhui acupoint serves as a vital valve in the human body. Located on the Governor Vessel, this meridian governs and coordinates all Yang meridians throughout the body. All three Yang meridians of the hands and feet converge at the Dazhui point on the Governor Vessel. Thus, the Dazhui point can be considered the "Yang within Yang" of our body. Protecting this "little sun" within the human body enables it to generate a continuous flow of energy, driving away illness.
Location of the Dazhui Point
Tilt your head downward and trace your hand along your neck. At the junction where the neck meets the back, you'll find a distinct bony protrusion—the spinous process of the seventh cervical vertebra. The Dazhui point is located in the depression directly beneath this protrusion.
How to Protect the Dazhui Point
1. Rubbing to Warm
When feeling chilly or experiencing wind-cold cold symptoms, rub your hands together to warm them before applying warmth to the Dazhui point, or simply rub the point directly with your hands;
2. Wear a Scarf
During summer, indoor air conditioning may be set low while it's hot outside. Carry a scarf with you and wrap it around your neck when you feel chilly indoors to protect the Dazhui point.
3.Moxibustion
Summer is ideal for nurturing yang energy, and moxibustion is the best method. Light a moxa stick and perform suspended moxibustion above the Dazhui acupoint, maintaining a comfortable warmth. About 15 minutes daily effectively protects your body's yang energy, achieving the effect of treating winter ailments in summer.
