Serum tests should be conducted 6 weeks after illness onset. Sexual partners who had contact within 30 days should undergo gonorrhea screening and receive prophylactic treatment.
After recovery, during the first month of resuming sexual activity, it's best to use condoms during intercourse to prevent transmission if latent gonorrhea bacteria are shed.
During illness, prioritize nutrition and rest. Eat plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits, and drink ample water; avoid spicy foods and excessive alcohol. Otherwise, symptoms may persist and be difficult to resolve. Ensure adequate rest without overexertion.
Couples may plan pregnancy two months after both partners are fully cured. Avoid conceiving too soon, as recurrence is likely. If gonorrhea recurs during pregnancy, undergo standard penicillin treatment. After childbirth, administer anti-gonococcal eye drops to the newborn. Monitor the baby's eye secretions; if purulent discharge appears, seek prompt ophthalmological evaluation. Untreated gonococcal conjunctivitis can lead to blindness. Avoid sexual intercourse until gonorrhea is fully cured. This prevents worsening the infection and transmitting gonococci to partners, which could spread the infection. Some sex workers may be asymptomatic but can still transmit gonorrhea through sexual contact. Sexual activity should generally resume only after complete cure. This means three consecutive negative cultures following proper treatment, with no remaining symptoms, indicating cure. Only then is sexual intercourse permissible.
Dietary Guidelines for Gonorrhea Patients
Patients should consume foods rich in protein and vitamins. Once the condition stabilizes, appropriate choices include cakes, wontons, dumplings, milk, soy milk, eggs, lean pork, shrimp, and fresh vegetables. Meals may alternate between sweet and savory flavors, eaten in small portions throughout the day. Increased water intake is also recommended to aid toxin elimination.
Additionally, certain foods should be avoided: spicy and irritating items like chili peppers, black pepper, ginger, scallions, mustard, alcohol, and strong tea; as well as heat-inducing foods such as chives, pickled mustard greens, snow pea shoots, coriander, and lamb.
