Running places significant stress on the calves, making post-run stretching essential for relaxation.
Method: Place both hands on a wall with arms spread apart. Position one leg forward and one leg back; bend the front knee while keeping the back leg straight, with both feet pointing forward. Keep the back heel on the ground. Feel the stretch in the calf muscle and hold for 15-30 seconds. Switch legs.
Hamstring Stretch
The hamstrings, located at the back of the thigh extending from the pelvis to the calf, are prone to injury. Stretching these muscles is crucial.
How to do it: Cross your legs with feet touching. Bend forward at the waist, keeping knees straight. Reach toward your feet or try to touch your hands to your shins. Hold for 15-30 seconds. Switch legs.
Hip Flexor Stretch
During running, leg lift power partially originates from the hip flexors. Therefore, these muscles require thorough stretching after running.
How to do it: Stand with legs apart, one foot forward and one back; keep toes pointing forward and body upright; press your hand against your thigh while shifting your hips forward until you feel a stretch in the front of your hip and the upper back thigh; hold for 15-30 seconds; switch legs.
Quadriceps (Front Thigh Muscles)
Procedure: Stand upright, lift your left foot behind you, and grasp it with your left hand. Keep knees together. Slowly pull your left foot toward your buttocks with your left hand until you feel a stretch in the quadriceps. Hold for 15-30 seconds. Switch legs.
Triceps (outer upper arm muscles)
Since your upper body moves while running, stretching your arms is also important.
Procedure: Extend your left arm out to your right side. Use your right hand to press your left elbow toward your right shoulder as close as possible. Hold for 15-30 seconds. Switch arms.
